As we reflect on the biggest snowstorm in over a century, we put down our shovels and tip our hats to the fantastic team here at Shady Lane! A heartfelt thank you to:
-Staff that were able to battle the roads and get to campus
-Staff that stayed late or came in early to make sure the residents were cared for
-Staff that volunteered to pick up others, drive people home and more to make sure we had help on hand to keep things running for our residents
-Staff who opted to stay on campus for one night or a few, just to make sure they could get into work
-Everyone who pitched in wherever it was needed to make sure our residents and staff were taken care of.

Times like these make us realize how blessed we are to have the team we do Shady Lane. Your dedication and love for our residents shines through in all you do, thank you!

🍀🍻 Shamrock Shenanigans at Shady Lane! 🍻🍀

Today, Shady Lane management hosted a lively pub crawl for our residents—and let’s just say, the luck of the Irish was definitely with us! ☘️ From stop to stop, there were festive drinks, plenty of laughs, and maybe even a little mischief along the way 😉

Our residents had an absolute blast “traveling” between pubs, sharing stories, and enjoying the fun atmosphere. No passports needed—just good spirits and great company!

A huge thank you to our amazing team for making today so special. Cheers to unforgettable moments and a whole lot of Irish cheer! 🍀💚🍺

The Shady Lane Story

Since 1951, Shady Lane has excelled at providing the highest level of care to the residents of the Manitowoc community. We reserve our accommodations primarily for the residents of Manitowoc County because that’s what we do- take care of the needs of this community first. We make every effort to meet the physical, spiritual, and social needs of all our residents. Over the years, our reputation for the utmost quality care available has been based on our committed, well-trained staff that provides care twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

It all began in 1950 when a group of community leaders saw a need for a not-for-profit senior living facility based on sound principles and values. That philosophy continues today with our board of local visionary leaders who oversee our operations. Offering excellent care and a variety of affordable senior living accommodations is the primary guiding principle in every decision.

During the first 50 years, Shady Lane provided both intermediate and skilled nursing services. Since then, more assisted living units were added to the campus through renovations and new construction. Our newest addition to the campus broke ground in 2016 which included a 36-unit building, half devoted to assisted living, and half devoted to a rehabilitation unit.

Shady Lane has the advantage of being Manitowoc’s only private citizen-directed, not-for-profit senior living facility. Our fifteen-member volunteer board believes that our community deserves a well-managed, affordable senior living facility, not funded by tax dollars, not directed by stockholders, but through good management and community support. Being not-for-profit affects the quality of care with any profits going right back into the facility, making it a better place and a better value. We strive to offer excellent care, a variety of prices, and affordable senior living accommodations.
