We write to you today with profound sadness to share the news of the passing of our respected colleague, mentor, and professor emeritus, Dr. Rick Auger.

Dr. Auger dedicated over 20 years of service to the Department of Counseling & Student Personnel before retiring in 2021. During that time, he made an incredible impact on the lives of countless students. Beyond the classroom, Dr. Auger’s commitment significantly shaped the field of school counseling and counselor education. His research and leadership in helping school counselor’s support the mental health of their students advanced our understanding and raised the standards of practice across the region. More than a brilliant scholar, he was a deeply kind person whose mentorship was defined by his generous spirit and unwavering belief in his students. He didn't just shape their careers—he helped shape them as people, leaving a lasting mark on their lives.

This weekend students from CSP's Child and Adolescent Counseling class in the College of Education - Minnesota State University, Mankato shared the Slinky Breaths & Hand Brain activity with our friends at the Children's Museum of Southern Minnesota.

We showed how our brain "flips its lid" and practiced calming with Slinky Breaths:

➡️Stretch the slinky as you breathe in
➡️Bring it back together as you breathe out

A simple way for kids to settle big feelings. 💜
