Do you get a chafing, stinging, sandpaper or finger nail-like feeling with insertion during s3xual activity?

This could be due to low estrogen resulting in tissue that is thinner, drier, and more fragile/prone to micro-abrasions.

Common times for estrogen to be low are if you are recently postpartum, lactating, or entering/in menopause.

Ask your Obgyn about a prescription for local vaginal estrogen to help with this symptom! And be sure to see a pelvic PT since this is just one aspect of the full picture to long-term symptom resolution and pelvic health!

Are you constantly having to p*e or worried about where you’ll find the next bathroom? What’s actually normal?

On average, a void interval of about every 2-4 hours throughout the day and 0-1x/night for about 5-8 voids in a 24 hour period is considered normal.

If you find yourself chronically emptying much sooner than every 2 hours or chronically holding your bladder >4 hours at a time during the day (I see you nurses and teachers!), this can start to disrupt the brain-bladder signaling.

Need help resetting your bladder so you can break free from leaks or planning life around finding the next bathroom? Link in bio to request appointment on our website!

Pelvic floor strength 💪

Here’s the thing. I don’t really care about your kegel strength or if you can hold a 10 second max contraction and repeat that 10 times. Where else in the body do we isolate strength in this way?

I care much more about how your pelvic floor is functioning and your symptoms.

I care about what happens when we get you off your back and into standing.

I care about the timing of when it turns on and how much it turns on in relation to how hard the task is.

I care about if it is resting in a shortened stuck position or if there are areas of tension that are limiting how well it can react.

I care about the other areas in your body around and outside of the pelvic floor that influence how it responds (from your jaw to your toes).

I care about how you manage pressure that is coming down onto the pelvic floor from above and how you manage the impact coming up from the ground below.

I care about how well it’s working (or over working) in relation to the muscles in the rest of your core, trunk and hips.

But here’s the thing- I don’t really care about your kegel 🤫🤯

Did you know that hormone fluctuation through the different phases of our menstrual cycle can be a hidden factor to pelvic health symptoms like pelvic pain, endo, IC, pelvic heaviness, prolapse, painful in*******se, urinary leakage, urgency/frequency and constipation. Our hormones also impact pelvic wellness factors like s*x drive and lubrication!

Listen to the video to learn the phases of your menstrual cycle (hint: it’s not just your period!) and then if you are dealing with any of these pelvic health conditions and can’t find a pattern to your symptoms, I challenge you to start tracking them with the phases of your cycle!

Do you find yourself going to the bathroom to p*e frequently (less than 2 hours) or urgently (legs crossed running to get there in time)? Especially after consuming drinks like alcohol🍷, coffee ☕️ and carbonated beverages🥤? Try this!

🐌 Slow down the rate that you are drinking to avoid a quick stretch to the bladder which will trigger a stronger urge signal to your brain

💧Try sipping water along with your drink to help dilute it in the bladder. Counterintuitive I know!

Try this quick tip through the holidays and let me know if it helps!

As a follow-up to last week’s quick tip…what are the signs of constipation? A common misconception is that as long as you have a BM at least daily, or as long as it doesn’t look like rabbit 💩 you must not be constipated…This is not true! Which sign surprised you most?

And remember- address constipation to help your (seemingly unrelated) pelvic floor symptoms like urinary leaks, prolapse, endo, pelvic pain, chronic low back pain, and sciatica!

June is Prolapse Awareness Month! Let’s start off with becoming more familiar with signs and symptoms that may indicate you have a prolapse. Did you know a pelvic floor PT can provide a detailed assessment to help determine if you have a prolapse, which type(s) of prolapse you have, and how significant it is? We can also assess for factors that may put you at risk of developing prolapse. Suspect you may have one? We work with many women who are dealing with pelvic organ prolapse— and there are so many options for treatment!

Request an appointment for a comprehensive evaluation using the link in bio— we have limited availability for new clients left for summer!

⭐️ Get to know Courtney, our Office Coordinator! ⭐️

If you have been in for an appointment in the past six months or called our office you’ve already met her! Courtney is the one who welcomes you to your appointment and who you’ll speak with if you call our office. She is always working hard in the office and behind the scenes to keep everything running smoothly. Be sure to thank her for all she does!

⭐️ What do you love most about working at LiveWell?
I feel my skills I’ve learned from being a mom translate well to this job, and I enjoy being able to use those skills in a new way to help our patients feel at ease with the process of beginning and continuing PT. My hope when they enter our office is that they feel safe and comfortable, whether they are a new patient or have been coming here for a while.

⭐️ How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing games, reading books, listening to podcasts, and visiting coffee shops.

⭐️ Book you’re currently reading
Currently reading Righteous Prey by John Sandford. I love reading book series where you can see the development of the characters over time.

⭐️ Favorite summer activity
I’m more of a fall person but in the summer I do enjoy days of relaxing in the sunshine and trying all the ice cream places we can find.

⭐️ Did you know?
Since I was a kid, I’ve been collecting Monopoly board games. I probably have 25-30 and they take up a good portion of our game shelf.

Be sure to say hi to her the next time you’re in!

• D E D I C A T I O N • Did you know that over the past month Dr. Enas has completed 32 hours of educational training over 5 days in course: Level 3 Advanced Pelvic Floor- Prolapse and Stress Urinary Incontinence with Dr. Taryn Hallum from Australia?

At LiveWell, we are one of the only PT practices in the area that specializes entirely in pelvic health which means we always prioritize staying up to date with the latest advancements in the field.
