Elena Schreiber, LMFT

Elena Schreiber, LMFT Elena blends traditional psychotherapy techniques with mindfulness practices: yoga, conscious breathing, hypnotherapy, meditation, and EFT/tapping.

Every person has the right and the capacity to heal, to change and grow, and to create a life they love. This kind of journey is a process that takes time, courage and a willing heart. My name is Elena Schreiber, and I'm a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Connecticut (in 2000), and my Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Central Connecticut State University (in 2006). I have been licensed and working in private practice since 2009. I have experience working with various populations in multiple settings, including a sexual assault crisis center, and in-patient drug and alcohol treatment hospital, an outpatient clinic for children, adolescents and families, a therapeutic group home for children, and a university counseling department. I have been licensed as an MFT and in private practice since 2009. I work with individuals, couples, and families dealing with a variety of challenges, including major life transitions, anxiety and depression, grief/loss, relational issues, stress and trauma. I have particular experience working with primary and secondary survivors of sexual abuse. There are many therapeutic approaches I draw from, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping), as well as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). In addition to using various traditional psychotherapy techniques I am also a yoga teacher. I have been teaching local yoga classes since 2008, focusing on restorative practices, hatha (balance) practices, and vinyasa (flow) practices. I will incorporate elements of yoga into my work with therapy clients, including conscious breathing, gentle postures, mindfulness practices and meditation. My personal philosophy of therapy is to create a good experience where people feel safe, heard, empowered and inspired. Together, we will explore your unique strengths and develop helpful strategies to move your life forward, in the direction of your dreams.

Whenever I'm angry, sad, scared, frustrated or stuck (or all of the above), it always helps to focus on this essential question: "What do I have control over?" I switch the focus away from "them" or the situation, and focus instead on what I'm responsible for, what I can control, and how I want to show up on any given day, in any given moment or relationship.

This is the only place where we have jurisdiction.

Anything else is just spinning our wheels, driving us crazy.
