We’re excited to share an upcoming advanced training through the Mansfield–Arlington Play Therapy Training Center.
Deepening the Relationship: Advanced Skills in Child-Centered Play Therapy is a 2-day, in-person training offering 12 CEs for mental health professionals, with APT-approved play therapy credit available for those pursuing or maintaining RPT credentials.

The training focuses on advanced CCPT skills including therapeutic relationship, limit setting, documentation, termination, and parent collaboration across clinical settings.

Our Owner, Heather Pina-McGhee, LPC-S, RPT-S, is now also the co-founder of Mansfield–Arlington Play Therapy Training Center (MAPT Training Center)!

MAPT’s very first training, “Welcome to the Playroom: A Beginner’s Guide to Child-Centered Play Therapy,” will be held November 7–8, 2025 in Mansfield.
This 2-day, 12 CE training is designed for counselors, social workers, psychologists, graduate students, and other mental health professionals who work with children.

✨ Exciting News + A Helpful Update for the New School Year ✨

We’re honored to share that Heather Pina-McGhee, LPC-S, RPT-S was recently named a Mom-Approved Play Therapist by DFWChild Magazine! This recognition means so much to us and truly reflects the trust and relationships we’ve built with families at Life Chapters Counseling 💛

We’re also excited to share an important update for Texas families:
Starting this fall, schools are required to excuse absences for mental health care—just like physical health appointments.

🧠 Thanks to SB 207, students won’t face attendance or academic penalties for taking time off to care for their emotional well-being. To be counted as excused, your child must attend part of the school day before or after the appointment, and you’ll just need a note from their therapist.

This is a big step forward in supporting whole-child wellness, and we’re grateful to walk alongside you every step of the way.

Grateful for the opportunity to learn from Dr. Terry Kottman today at the CPT Summer Institute. Her authenticity, energy, and humor brought so much life to the training on Creative Interventions in Adlerian Play Therapy. I left with a mix of playful techniques, creative ideas, and plenty of great stories and laughs 🤣.

It was also a great day to reconnect with other play therapists, colleagues and friends who continue to inspire and encourage meaningful work with children and families.

Looking for emotional support for your child, teen, or young adult? We’re now offering reduced-fee counseling sessions at Life Chapters Counseling in Mansfield, TX through our graduate student interns — with a special focus on Play Therapy for children ages 4 and up.
Interns will begin seeing clients in just a few short weeks — secure your spot now!
