🎗️ April is Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Month

This month is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of cancer prevention and early detection across all cancer types. Routine screening can play an important role in identifying disease earlier, when more care options may be available.

For prostate health specifically, screening decisions are personal and should be made in consultation with a qualified physician, based on individual risk factors.

Routine cancer screening is an important part of staying well. Take charge of your health today and encourage those around you to do the same by signing up for screening reminders from Earl E. Bird: preventcancer.org/add-cancer-screening-reminder/

Celebrating 8 years of Francis Medical 🎉

Our mission is to be: Tough on Cancer, Gentle on Patients

That mission is deeply personal. In 1991, Francis Hoey, father of our founder, Michael Hoey, passed away due to prostate cancer complications following treatment that led to debilitating side effects. Experiencing those challenges firsthand shaped a vision grounded in the belief that there must be a better way forward.

Francis Medical was founded on that conviction, bringing together deep expertise in urology and anatomy, a passion to improve what’s possible for men diagnosed with prostate cancer, and a drive for innovation inspired by high-performance engineering.

Eight years later, we remain committed to advancing this mission alongside the clinicians, partners, and patients who continue to shape our journey.

The EAU26 Prostate Cancer Run on March 14 brought the global urology community together for an early morning run and walk along the Thames in support of those impacted by prostate cancer. Proceeds from the event support the work of Europa Uomo, including initiatives that highlight the role of physical activity for men living with the disease.

Thank you to the organizers, sponsors, and all who participated—clinicians, industry partners, patients, and families—for contributing to such a meaningful event. We were especially proud to see Francis Medical’s James Wright take part alongside so many dedicated individuals.

The Vanquish® Water V***r Ablation System harnesses the Power of Phase Shift Energy, a breakthrough in targeted prostate tissue ablation.

💦 As water converts to v***r (or steam) at ~100°C, an exponential phase shift occurs, with the resulting water v***r carrying more than 5x the energy of water of the same mass.

The Vanquish® System is designed to use the phase shift energy stored in sterile water v***r to transfer thermal energy to targeted prostate tissue, causing cell death.

Looking back at the European Association of Urology Congress (EAU26), we’re grateful for the opportunity to connect with the urology community during an evening focused on advancing care.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the dinner and presentation, and to Dr. Arvin George for sharing insights from the V***R 2 Study on patient experience. This novel, multi-center trial is evaluating the Vanquish® Water V***r Ablation System, a transurethral thermal water v***r approach to ablate prostate tissue, with data now reported on the first 110 patients at 12-month follow-up.

We appreciate the engagement and thoughtful discussion around emerging, evidence-based approaches to care.

“The patient satisfaction data further supports the exciting potential of the Vanquish technology,” said Dr. Arvin George, director of Prostate Cancer Programs at the Johns Hopkins Brady Urological Institute, and a V***R 2 co-principal investigator. “Most patients experienced no pain, quickly resumed daily activities, and indicated high rates of satisfaction with their procedure and decision at 12 months.”

Echoing V***R 2 Study results: 93% of patients were extremely satisfied or satisfied at 12 months, with minimal to no pain reported.

About Us

Francis Medical is a dynamic medical device company committed to developing urological cancer treatments that are tough on cancer, yet gentle on patients. Our work is fueled by a compassionate belief that cancer can be stopped with minimally invasive treatments. The company’s core values are Quality, Integrity, Innovation, Excellence, and Collaboration.

Prostate Cancer

Using a new platform to treat endourological cancers, water v***r technology, we’re developing a device for treating prostate cancer, the second most common cancer in American men. Currently available prostate cancer treatments often result in life-altering side effects such as urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Water v***r technology is intended to result in minimal side effects, offering a distinct advantage over other treatments.

Francis Medical is named after Francis Hoey, the father of inventor and Francis Medical founder, Michael Hoey. In 1991, after undergoing prostate cancer treatments with debilitating effects on his daily living, Francis died from prostate cancer.
