This flu season has been particularly brutal, not to mention all of the more common illnesses being spread around as well. Aside from vaccinations, the most important thing to do to help prevent illnesses in yourself and those around you is HAND WASHING 🧼

Thorough handwashing should be taking place many times a day. Hands should be washed after using the restroom, coughing or sneezing, handling garbage, touching food, smoking, petting animals, and more. If you don't have access to water and soap right away, you can also use hand sanitizer in the meantime.

As part of Black History Month, we want to celebrate the work of an African-American inventor each week, focusing on those who have made contributions to the cleaning and facility services sectors!

First up is Charles B. Brooks, who patented improvements to the street sweeper in the 1890s. Brooks' design was the first self-propelled sweeper of its time, and the design was so successful that it was adopted for the entire city of Buffalo, NY.

Without Brooks' work, street sweepers wouldn't be what they are today. Thanks to him, our cities and streets are that much cleaner!
