What does a “strong baby” look like?⏬️
It can look like lifting their head early, pushing through their arms, holding themselves up, or even seeming to “sit up” long before expected. And understandably, that can look like they’re ahead of the curve.
But from a pediatric chiropractic perspective, we often see something a little deeper.🚩
Those early signs of “strength” are usually not advanced development👉 they’re compensation.
When a baby’s nervous🧠 system is under stress, their body can shift into protection mode. This may show up as tension, arching, stiffness, or holding their body tightly when we’d expect more softness, comfort, and ease. What looks like strength is often a nervous system working overtime to feel safe.😮💨
🚨There may also be other signs of stress, such as colic, reflux, constipation, breastfeeding or latching challenges, discomfort during tummy time, head favoring one side, and more.
In the newborn stage, we aren’t looking for “strong.”
We’re looking for relaxed, wiggly, flexible, and at ease- signs of a calm, connected, and well-regulated nervous system.🌱
If your baby seems “strong for their age,” Neurologically-Focused Chiropractic Care can gently support their system in unwinding, regulating, and moving through milestones in the right sequence- not just at the right speed.✨️
