Keep Mice and Rats Out This Winter!

As temps drop, rodents like mice and rats often look for warm places. Left unchecked, even a few can quickly turn into a bigger problem.

Tips to bait, block and prevent rodents from sneaking inside:

• Use snap-traps — not poisons indoors. The most effective, low-risk method is a basic wooden snap trap. Use peanut butter as bait.

• Place traps along walls and edges. Using several traps at once helps catch them faster.

• Seal up every tiny opening around windows, doors, dryer vents and utility pipes. Use caulk and fill larger gaps with copper or steel wool. Mice can squeeze through holes as small as ¼ inch wide.

• Clean up clutter inside and outside. Keep woodpiles, trash, birdseed, pet or livestock feeds and garbage tightly sealed. Remove brush piles or debris near the house.

• Watch for warning signs: droppings (mouse droppings resemble tiny dark grains of rice), gnaw marks, shredded nesting materials, burrow entrances, or rustling in walls.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Enjoy your holiday feast, but don’t let those delicious leftovers go to waste! Freezing is a simple way to save money, reduce food waste and keep your favorite dishes ready for another day.

Here are some quick tips for freezing holiday leftovers:

• Cool before freezing: Refrigerate within 2 hours, then freeze once cooled. Use smaller containers for faster cooling.
• Pick the right container: Use freezer-safe, airtight options like zip-top bags or durable containers.
• Know what freezes well: Meats, soups, pies, cookies and casseroles are great choices. Avoid dishes heavy in mayo or milk sauces because they don’t thaw well.
• Label & date: Include the food name and date for easy tracking.
• Keep it cold: Freezer temp should be 0°F. Don’t overfill!
• Storage time: Most leftovers stay fresh for 3–4 months.

Enjoy your holiday and make those meals last!

Good news: You can cross “rake the leaves” off your to-do list!
This busy season is packed enough and leaving the leaves is actually better for your yard and the environment.

Here’s why it matters:

• Pollinators love it! Fallen leaves provide winter shelter for native bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. Many species nest in leaf litter or overwinter as eggs and cocoons.

• Your soil wins too! As leaves break down, they add organic matter, improve water retention, and even help suppress weeds like a natural mulch!
