Did you know Physical Therapists are skilled to perform sonography, or diagnostic Ultrasound? This helps us guide our treatment but also give our clients a sense of comfort knowing they do not have to wait WEEKS so see a physician.

So what are we looking at here? A client of mine who I’m treating for an unrelated issue has had chronic heel pain and feet issues so I decided to examine his heel and plantar fascia with the ultrasound. Here we can see a few things…

🟡 Yellow: Heel Spur, essentially an arthritic condition that causes “spurring” of the heel.

🔵 Blue: The bright white on the bottom of the heel represents the arthritis, but the amount of white can represent the chronicity of it as well

🔴 Red: Looking at the actual Plantar Fascia. There is definitely thickening and white spots through out which are indicative of calcification of different areas of the plantar fascia

In addition to this, he can barely perform a single leg heel raise due to weaknesses. I just saved him time and resources to be seen at a physicians office.

Heel Pain? Achilles Pain? Let’s get to work.
