Take ACTION by helping autistic children feel seen and heard by reading books that help them understand themselves and reduce the feelings of isolation.

This is also a wonderful way to teach all children about the unique differences of their friends at school and in the community.

🚨 Let’s change the conversation this April:

Autism Acceptance Month→Autism ACTION Month 💙🔥

Awareness is important.
Acceptance is powerful.
But ACTION is what changes lives.

Challenge yourself this month by taking action to create real inclusion.

✨ Take action by:
✔️ Learning from autistic voices
✔️ Using neurodiversity-affirming language
✔️ Creating sensory-friendly spaces
✔️ Teaching true inclusion at home and in school
✔️ Supporting autistic-led businesses and advocates
✔️ Challenging outdated stereotypes
✔️ Speaking up when someone is left out

Real acceptance looks like changed spaces, changed mindsets, and changed opportunities.

💙 This April, let’s move beyond awareness and choose actions that help autistic individuals feel seen, respected, and genuinely included.

Stop back in this week for some additional tips on how you can take ACTION!

✨ BIG NEWS ✨

We are beyond excited to announce that Occupational Therapy is now available at Smart Play! 🎉

Starting in May, Jennifer from Nurture Pediatric Occupational Therapy will be accepting new clients!

Jennifer believes therapy should be fun, meaningful, and centered around your child and family’s unique needs. From building fine and gross motor skills, increasing independence with daily routines, and supporting sensory processing differences, she loves helping families succeed in the everyday moments that matter most. 💛

Even more exciting, families now have the opportunity for co-treatment sessions with our Speech-Language Pathologist, allowing children to work on communication, play, regulation, motor skills, and daily functional routines in one collaborative session. This team-based approach helps support progress across multiple areas in a way that feels natural, connected, and play-based. 🗣️🤝🧩

✨ Wondering if OT may be right for your child? Here are some common signs:
• Delays in fine motor, gross motor, or visual motor skills
• Decreased strength and endurance
• Poor coordination and balance
• Difficulty tolerating sensory input (lights, sounds, movement, textures, etc.)
• Struggles with daily routines like dressing, bathing, hygiene, and play
• Challenges with academic tasks such as drawing shapes, cutting with scissors, grasping writing tools, and name writing

If this sounds like your child, OT may provide the support they need to build confidence and independence through play! 🌈

Reach out to learn more or reserve your child’s spot for May!

This quote made me think of Dory on Finding Nemo...Just. Keep. Swimming.

Sometimes teaching a new skill to a child takes so much time, energy, and patience...but the most important thing to remember is to just keep going...even if it feels like you are moving at turtle speed.

Another learning opportunity we highly recommend from our very own Bethany Graham!! You will leave with a whole new outlook on mealtime that will guide you through some of those selective eating challenges!

This course will provide parents actionable tips and strategies to help navigate those challenging mealtime moments. Bethany will teach a framework for structuring mealtime that works for both you and your child. From understanding why your child is more selective in what they eat, to increasing interest around new foods, to using language swaps that empower your child, this class will leave you feeling ready to take on mealtime! This course would be great for parents of toddlers through school age children!
