Starting the week with intention, purpose, and commitment.

Every Monday is a new opportunity to reset, refocus, and continue the work that matters. At Repairing the Bridge Behavioral Health Services, our mission remains the same — to support mental health, strengthen individuals and families, and be part of prevention and healing in our communities.

I am especially committed to continuing this work within Native American communities, where mental health support, substance abuse prevention, and access to care are not just services — they are part of building stronger futures, stronger families, and stronger communities.

This week, I am focusing on:
• Showing up with compassion
• Listening without judgment
• Supporting recovery and prevention
• Building healthy coping skills
• Creating safe spaces for healing
• Continuing education and growth
• Serving the community with respect and cultural awareness

Mental health matters.
Prevention matters.
Community matters.
People matter.

Let’s start the week strong, grounded, and focused on healing, growth, and hope.

Some days are stressful, overwhelming, and exhausting. On days like that, it’s easy to choose coping skills that help for an hour but hurt in the long run.

Healthy coping skills like exercise, walking, music, laughter, spending time with people you love, and taking care of your body don’t just reduce stress — they actually increase serotonin and dopamine, the chemicals in your brain that help with mood, motivation, and happiness.

Part of mental health is not just reducing stress, but also intentionally creating joy in your life.

Go for the walk.
Go to the gym.
Call a friend.
Listen to music.
Laugh.
Rest.
Drink water.
Do something that makes you feel alive.

Coping is not just about surviving life — it’s about learning how to enjoy it too.

This weekend I found something we all need but rarely schedule — peace.
Sitting in the mountains, looking over the vineyard, I was reminded that our minds and our hearts need quiet places too.

Stress does not always go away because we solve everything. Sometimes it goes away because we step away, breathe, and allow ourselves to be present.

Nature slows your thoughts, calms your body, and reminds you that not everything has to be rushed.

Take care of your mind.
Take care of your body.
Take care of your heart.

💙✈🏽 Self-care isn’t always quiet… sometimes it’s a reset.

Sometimes self-care isn’t just a bubble bath or a quiet moment…sometimes it’s booking the flight, changing your scenery, and giving your mind permission to breathe again.

I chose ME.I chose peace over pressure.I chose a reset over burnout.

At Repairing the Bridge, we remind our clients that self-care can look different for everyone — but the goal is always the same: restoration, balance, and healing.

You are allowed to pause. You are allowed to step away. You are allowed to take care of YOU.

💙 Repairing the Bridge — restoring balance, rebuilding lives.

Stuffed Sweet Potatoes with Spinach, Mushroom, Feta & Rosemary
drizzled with Lemon Garlic Yogurt Sauce

Sweet potatoes provide fiber and antioxidants that support heart health, while spinach and mushrooms bring powerful nutrients that help reduce inflammation and support overall wellness.

When food is prepared with intention, it becomes more than a meal…
It becomes self-care.

💛 Whether you’re healing, growing, or simply learning to love your body better, every nourishing choice matters.

Ingredients:
• 4 medium sweet potatoes
• 1 tablespoon olive oil
• 2 cups baby spinach, roughly chopped
• 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
• 1 clove garlic, minced
• 1/2 teaspoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped
• 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
• Salt and black pepper to taste

Top it off with a light lemon garlic yogurt drizzle for extra flavor and protein.

Healthy comfort food that loves your heart back.

If you try this recipe, tell us in the comments — we love seeing our community cooking and caring for themselves.

“Heart disease doesn’t start in the hospital… it starts in the kitchen.”

Tonight I made a Mediterranean-inspired meal that feeds both the heart and the soul.

Instead of traditional ground beef, I swapped in lean ground turkey to lower saturated fat while keeping the protein high. Then I layered it on warm whole-grain flatbread with:

Creamy lemon honey feta
Fresh cucumber & tomatoes
Kalamata olives
Parsley and olive oil

Meals like this follow the Mediterranean approach to eating, which research consistently links to better heart health, lower inflammation, and improved longevity.

For many families, especially in communities of color, heart disease has touched someone we love.

That’s why Hearts Like Whitney Collective is about more than awareness.
It’s about practical changes we can make every day.

Small shifts matter.

• Swap red meat for lean protein
• Use olive oil instead of butter
• Add fresh vegetables and herbs
• Choose foods that nourish your body

Healing the heart doesn’t only happen in the doctor’s office.
Sometimes it starts with a simple dinner.

❤️ For Whitney.
❤️ For our families.
❤️ For healthier communities.

“One of the most powerful forms of self-care is learning that food is fuel, not just comfort.”

Eating to live is not always easy.

Today’s lunch for me was simple and intentional:
• 1 cup of quinoa
• EVOO wild-caught tuna
• 1 whole avocado

Nothing fancy. Just food meant to nourish the body and support long-term health.

In behavioral health work, we often talk about coping skills, emotional regulation, and healing from trauma. One area that is often overlooked is our relationship with food.

Food can easily become connected to stress, boredom, reward, or comfort. Over time, many people find themselves living to eat rather than eating to fuel their bodies.

Part of healing is learning to reconnect with our bodies and make choices that support both mental and physical well-being.

Small practices can help:
• Slow down and practice mindful eating
• Build balanced meals with protein, healthy fats, and fiber
• Notice the difference between emotional hunger and physical hunger

Recovery and wellness are not about perfection. They are about consistent choices that support a healthier life.

At Repairing the Bridge, we believe healing involves caring for the mind, body, and spirit.

Sometimes the meals that protect your health are not the most exciting…
but they may be the ones that help you build a stronger future.

Honoring a Promise and a Legacy

Today I’m proud to share a project that carries deep personal meaning for me and my family.

“The Adventures of Granny the Sheriff” is a children’s book based on a story written by my late mother.

Before she passed away, my mother asked me to make sure her story was released and shared with the world. Fulfilling that promise has been incredibly important to me.

Her imagination created the character of Granny — a wise, resourceful grandmother who helps communities solve problems in creative and unexpected ways. From the manuscript she left behind, I have been developing multiple books in the Granny the Sheriff series, continuing the story she began.

This journey is especially meaningful because my mother passed away due to heart disease–related complications, making this book not only a tribute to her creativity, but also a reminder of the importance of heart health and the legacies we leave behind.

Through these stories, I hope to inspire young readers with themes of:

💛 Courage
💛 Kindness
💛 Community
💛 Creativity
💛 Believing in yourself

Keeping my promise to my mother by sharing her story with children and families is something I will always cherish.

And this is just the beginning.

More adventures of Granny the Sheriff are on the way.

We Care

How do you repair the bridge?

The hope for the future, the pain of the past, the agony of disappointment and the fear of defeat are overcome by repairing the bridge. The bridge will lead us to our hearts desire, but it is impossible to get there if the bridge is damaged or broken.
