Today’s lunch wasn’t just about eating clean… it was about loving my heart on purpose. ❤️

On my plate:
✨ 6 ounces of grilled chicken
✨ 2 cups of mixed greens
✨ ½ cup quinoa
✨ ½ cup black beans
✨ Olive oil + vinegar

And for my snack:
🥕 Carrots
🥒 Cucumbers
🥦 Broccoli
🍅 Cherry tomatoes
🧆 Hummus topped with feta

This is heart protection.
This is stress management.
This is choosing nourishment over numbness.

As women, leaders, helpers, mothers, and healers, we carry so much. Stress impacts our hearts — physically and emotionally. Food can either fuel inflammation or support healing. Today I chose fiber, lean protein, healthy fats, and vibrant vegetables that support blood pressure, cholesterol balance, and mental clarity.

For the Hearts Like Whitney Collective, this is about more than aesthetics — it’s about prevention. It’s about honoring the body God gave us. It’s about regulating cortisol, stabilizing blood sugar, and protecting the very organ that keeps us going for our families and communities.

Stress relief isn’t always a spa day.
Sometimes it’s a grilled chicken salad and a commitment to yourself.

Look good.
Feel good.
Do good. ❤️

Sometimes healing looks like grief.
Sometimes it looks like discipline.

Today it looks like:

1 cup Greek yogurt
1 scoop whey
½ cup berries
1 tbsp chia seeds

Protein. Fiber. Antioxidants. Omega-3s.
Heart protection. Strength building. Longevity.

Hearts Like Whitney isn’t just a name.
It’s how I choose to live. 💜

Hearts Like Whitney Collective Official
Launch Announcement

There are moments in life that change you forever.

After losing my daughter, Whitney Marie Lawson, I knew I could not allow her life to end without impact.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women in the United States.

Nearly 60% of Black women over age 20 live with some form of cardiovascular disease or major risk factors such as high blood pressure.

We carry stress.
We carry families.
We carry grief.

But we often do not protect our own hearts.

In Whitney’s honor, I am launching:
Hearts Like Whitney Collective
A movement dedicated to raising awareness, promoting prevention, and protecting the heart health of ALL Women with a extra focus on African-American women and families.

This is about education.
This is about screening.
This is about lifestyle change.
This is about healing.

Whitney’s legacy will live on through every woman who checks her blood pressure, schedules her physical, takes a walk, and chooses prevention.

If her name can help save even one heart, her life continues to change the world.

From grief to generational wellness.

With love,
Sheila Reed

The older I get, the more I understand that health is not about vanity… it’s about capacity.

Capacity to lead.
Capacity to serve.
Capacity to love well.
Capacity to endure hard seasons without breaking.

I recently had a full mammogram + heart scan, and everything came back normal. That was a blessing — but it was also a responsibility.

So I’ve been walking.
Lifting (even with a chronic shoulder).
Tracking protein.
Choosing structure over impulse.

Not because I’m chasing a number…
But because I want strength that lasts.

Mental wellness isn’t just therapy sessions and coping skills.
It’s sleep.
It’s movement.
It’s stabilizing blood sugar.
It’s keeping promises to yourself.

There is something powerful about doing the quiet work when no one is clapping.

This isn’t a crash diet.
It’s a long-term commitment to my heart — physically and emotionally.

Strong body.
Clear mind.
Steady spirit.

And I’m not quitting.

Some days are high-needs days.

Serving rural communities means multiple crises, addiction concerns, limited resources—and showing up anyway. Today was one of those days.

And if I’m honest… I’m carrying my own ISH……..too.

Some days in this work, you hold space for everyone else while quietly holding yourself together. Today felt like that.

But I made a commitment — and I kept it.

I walked.

Not because I felt like it.
Not because the day was light.
But because my mental health matters.
Because my heart matters.
Because my family matters.

Walking helps move anxiety out of my body. It gives grief somewhere to go instead of letting it sit in my chest. It regulates my nervous system after holding so much all day.

And there is something powerful about following through on a promise to yourself — especially when no one would blame you for skipping it.

That follow-through builds strength.
Emotionally.
Mentally.
Physically.

Walking lowers stress hormones, supports heart health, improves circulation, and protects the very mucle that keeps us alive.

Today’s walk wasn’t about perfection.
It was about protection.

For my mind.
For my heart.
For my family.

If today feels heavy for you too, let this be your reminder: even a short walk counts. Showing up for yourself counts. One step is still forward.

I have been absent from this page. With a heavy heart, I share the passing of my beloved daughter.

She brought joy and love into every room, and losing her has changed me profoundly. In the midst of this grief, I’ve been reflecting on how we can honor her memory meaningfully.

My hope now is to bring greater awareness to something deeply important: heart disease in African-American women.

Heart disease affects nearly 60 % of Black women age 20 and older, and many don’t even realize they are at risk. This condition is preventable with awareness, early screening, and lifestyle support.

I know pain. I know loss. And I want her legacy to be one that helps us protect each other’s hearts — literally and figuratively.

Over the coming weeks and months, I will share information, inspiration, and resources that can help African-American women and families in preventative heart health.

Please share this post to spread the message. ❤️
In loving memory of Whitney Marie Lawson 1-8-92 - 1-18-26 forever in our hearts.

“High-functioning depression is still depression.
Just because you can move doesn’t mean you’re not hurting.”

Depression is not always visible.
Sometimes it’s hidden in responsibility, perfectionism, and pretending you’re fine.
If this is you:
You don’t have to carry it alone.
You deserve support too.

A story that shakes you… and then saves you.

Paper Chase is not just a book—it’s a journey through the shadows of trauma and the brilliance of survival. From the very first page, Sheila “Honey” Reed pulls you into the intense, heartbreaking, and sometimes infuriating realities inside a troubled family’s walls. The drama is raw. The violence is real. And the emotional honesty is breathtaking.

But this story doesn’t leave you in the darkness.

✨ It makes you smile at unexpected moments of joy.
✨ It nudges you to celebrate every victory, no matter how small.
✨ It reminds you that pain does not define the ending—resilience does.

Through captivating storytelling and soul-deep reflections, Reed transforms her lived experiences into a beacon of hope for anyone on their own healing journey. Paper Chase shows you that no matter what you’ve faced—
you can rise, reclaim your voice, and rebuild your life.

🔑 Inside these pages, you’ll discover the true power of:

✔️ Faith as an anchor
✔️ Self-worth as a weapon
✔️ Hard-earned lessons as stepping stones
✔️ Adversity as a catalyst for transformation

This book doesn’t just tell a story—it teaches you how to survive, how to breathe again, and how to walk forward with purpose.

How do you repair the bridge?

The hope for the future, the pain of the past, the agony of disappointment and the fear of defeat are overcome by repairing the bridge. The bridge will lead us to our hearts desire, but it is impossible to get there if the bridge is damaged or broken.
