At Avant Interventional Psychiatry, we believe heart health and mental health go hand in hand. Stress, anxiety, and depression can affect cardiovascular health—just as physical health plays a role in emotional well-being.
This Friday, February 6th, we’re encouraging our community, team members, and patients to wear red in support of a healthier body and mind. Let’s come together, raise awareness, and start meaningful conversations around whole-person wellness.
❤️🧠 Wear red. Show support. Take care of your heart and your mental health.

❤️🖤 Black History Month 🖤❤️
This month, we take time to honor the history, strength, and voices of Black communities—recognizing both the resilience that has been shown and the humanity that deserves care and compassion.
At Avant Interventional Psychiatry, we believe mental health is deeply personal. For many, especially within the Black community, there has been a long history of carrying pain silently. We want to help create space where it feels safe to talk, to heal, and to be supported—without judgment and without stigma.
This February, we celebrate Black history while reaffirming our commitment to listening, understanding, and providing compassionate mental health care for all.
❤️🧠 Your story matters. Your mental health matters.

When anxiety starts to creep in, sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is pause and remind yourself: you are safe 💚
Nervous thoughts, racing feelings, and overwhelming moments don’t last forever — even when they feel heavy in the moment.
Simple grounding statements like: • “I am safe.” • “This moment will pass.” can help bring your mind back to the present and create space to breathe.
At Avant Interventional Psychiatry, we help patients learn tools to manage anxiety while also offering advanced, personalized mental health treatments when more support is needed.

✨ Happy LPC Week! ✨
This week, we’re celebrating three incredible Licensed Professional Counselors who truly make the heart of our therapy team at Avant Interventional Psychiatry.
🩷 Kia Hansford, LPC, CPCS As Avant’s very first LPC, Kia helped build the foundation of our therapy program from the ground up. She is a fierce advocate for patients, a trusted leader for our team, and a mentor who continues to shape the future of our clinicians. Avant simply wouldn’t be what it is today without her.
💙 Kyle Johnson, LPC, CPCS Kyle is a steady, grounding presence for both his patients and our team. His consistency, professionalism, and genuine care show up every single day — whether he’s supporting patients through challenges or quietly holding things together behind the scenes. His impact is real and deeply felt.
💜 Kishwar Peiris, LPC Kishwar brings warmth, compassion, and intentional care into every space she enters. She goes above and beyond to make sure every patient feels seen, supported, and never forgotten. Her patience, dedication, and heart make a lasting difference for so many.
From our patients, our staff, and all of us at Avant — thank you for the care, commitment, and humanity you bring to this work. We are incredibly grateful for each of you.

Today, we honor the life, leadership, and lasting legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — a reminder that compassion, dignity, and hope are essential to healing, both individually and collectively. His words continue to inspire progress, understanding, and care for the whole person.
At Avant Interventional Psychiatry, we recognize that mental health is deeply personal, and healing is not always linear. For many, true relief requires innovative, evidence-based approaches that go beyond traditional care.

Avant Interventional Psychiatry was founded in 2017 by Dr. Okah “Justin” Anyokwu. Upon moving to the Atlanta area he continued his work with local inpatient hospitals as well as underserved populations in hospitals specializing in psychiatric consults for comorbid and Treatment-Resistant psychiatric disorders. After making the decision to call this community home, he decided that he wanted to take part in making the lives of the people in our area better with a deeper reach towards mental wellness. Throughout his years of work in mental health and particularly with complex and severe mental illness, Dr. Justin realized an interventional piece was needed to bridge the gap in psychiatric treatment. By intervening in the lives of patients before hospitalization and being able to assess the true complexity of their mental health needs we hope to replace years of suffering with more years of healthy living and peace of mind.
ABOUT THE OWNER
Dr. Okah “Justin” Anyokwu received his medical degree from the College of Health Sciences at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife Nigeria. He then moved to the United Kingdom to attend the Royal College of Psychiatry to specialize in Psychiatry. Dr. Justin is a board-certified psychiatrist licensed in eight states and is currently a member of the American Psychiatric Association. He specializes in comorbid and Treatment-Resistant psychiatric disorders. He founded Avant Behavioral Consultants in 2017 which now operates as Avant Interventional Psychiatry, an outpatient private practice specializing in: treatment resistant psychiatric services, tele-psychiatry, therapy/counseling sessions, substance abuse treatment [and/or suboxone therapy], and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy.
