❄ Extreme cold warning ❄
Wind chills are dangerously low, and older adults should take extra precautions to avoid cold-related injuries.

Cold weather injuries:
Older adults are more vulnerable to frostbite and hypothermia due to decreased circulation in their arms and legs. Dr. John Weigand, AGE’s medical director, reminds us to:
βœ… Dress in layers
βœ… Limit time outdoors if you must go out
βœ… Stay indoors when possible

Need a warm place? Your local Area Agency on Aging may be able to direct you to emergency warming centers and shelters. Call 1-866-243-5678 to find resources in your community.

Stay tuned to local news for updates on weather alerts, closings, warming centers, and other critical resources.

We’re really excited about this!

Over the past few years, Factory Street Studio has continued to build programming that intentionally includes older adults, a clear sign that people of all ages belong in creative, community spaces. If you’re 50+, or if you know someone who is, we really hope you’ll consider checking this out. Participation matters and programs like this make our community stronger, more inclusive, and more welcoming for people of all ages.

Classes run from January 12th-April 25th and they’re offering two options:
β€’ A seated class on Tuesdays from 12–1
β€’ A standing class on Wednesdays from 1–2

Bonus: there’s food and fellowship afterward, because connection matters just as much as movement.

It’s going to be another day of bitterly cold temperatures across parts of Ohio. Older adults may want to take extra steps to ensure they have what they need, such as:

βœ… Non-powered options for equipment that will not work without electricity;
βœ… A battery-operated radio, a flashlight, extra batteries, and extra blankets;
βœ… Ask a reliable family member, friend or neighbor to check in on you to make sure you are okay.

Space heaters are most often involved in home heating fires.

Stay safe this winter by keeping space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn, and always turn them off when leaving the room or going to bed.
