Meet Mary: Your Guide on the Journey to Wholeness!!

Individual therapy is an invaluable resource that addresses the difficulties each person faces in their life.

Apraxis provides a safe, supportive environment to be able to effectively address our clients’ unique needs.

We place great importance on cultivating a warm, loving and authentic relationship with our clients, and do so by embodying empathy, genuineness, and compassion from a place of non-judgment. We’ve found that the ability to grow, change, and heal is mediated through this type of relationship.

After working with our clinicians, our clients walk away feeling more empowered, confident and grounded in themselves.

Let's turn the spotlight back on our founder, Kurt Youngberg, PhD, LCSW! With over two decades of professional psychological experience in various roles and settings, Dr. Kurt has distilled his wealth of knowledge into his current roles serving the community and the world at large.

As a psychotherapist, ecopsychologist, researcher, adventurer, and seeker, Dr. Kurt brings his passion and dedication to his mission of healing and enhancing the lives of individuals and communities. He believes in a collaborative and relational approach to therapy, understanding the interconnectedness between humans, their environments, and their well-being.

Inspired by his own experiences, Dr. Kurt envisioned Apraxis as a new approach to providing holistic care to the community. Apraxis serves as both a traditional therapeutic space and a gateway to unconventional forms of therapy such as adventure, nature, and cross-cultural experiences. Dr. Kurt recognizes the need for innovative pathways for healing and growth, not only for individuals but also for communities and the planet.

Putting theory into action is Dr. Kurt's mantra, as reflected in the name Apraxis. He integrates various theories into his practice, including depth psychology, Jungian psychology, existential-phenomenological psychotherapy, psychoanalytic psychodynamic therapy, and ecopsychology/ecotherapy.

Dr. Kurts devotion to this sacred endeavor is also a pledge to the objective of liberating individuals from the sense of being fundamentally detached and estranged from both others and the environment, fostering instead the innate sense of interconnectedness - the sensation of being inherently integrated into something beyond the confines of the individual self. From disconnection to connection, from dis-ease to harmony.

The transition from adolescence to adulthood is a time marked with so much excitement and optimism.

It’s a period of unbound possibilities, a horizon of new freedom and opportunities. It’s also a time filled with questions about identity. At Apraxis, we care deeply at trying to fill the gap between the needs of our emerging adults and the lack of support of our society. Through their work with our clinicians, emerging adults gain greater self-awareness and clarity about their goals in life. They develop a stronger sense of confidence in their identity and their potential contributions to the world. As a result, they become more optimistic and hopeful about their journey into adulthood.

Head to our site to learn more about how we can support you and your transition into adulthood.

One’s identity or sense of self is intricately connected to ecological transitions because these transitions often involve changes in the social and environmental contexts that shape one’s identity. As individuals navigate different ecological transitions, they encounter new roles, relationships, and cultural norms that influence how they perceive themselves and others.

For example, moving to a new city for college or starting a new job in a different country can prompt individuals to reassess their values, beliefs, and goals, leading to shifts in their identity. Similarly, transitions such as becoming a parent, experiencing a career change, or undergoing personal growth can challenge individuals to redefine their sense of self in light of new experiences and responsibilities.

Ecological transitions provide opportunities for individuals to explore different aspects of their identity, experiment with new roles and behaviors, and develop a more nuanced understanding of who they are. These transitions also allow individuals to integrate diverse cultural influences, values, and perspectives into their identity, contributing to a sense of belonging and connection to the broader world.

Overall, ecological transitions play a vital role in shaping and reshaping one’s identity over time, as individuals adapt to changing environments and circumstances, ultimately contributing to their psychological flexibility and resilience.

At Apraxis, we’ve designed our adventure therapy with ecological transitions in mind. We intentionally create opportunities for participants to experience new environments, cultures and natural landscapes to promote a greater diversity in how they see themselves and the world
