Your brain is doing exactly what it was designed to do: scan for threat, move you toward protection, and try to keep you safe.

The work of therapy isn’t to eliminate irritation.

It’s to help you notice it sooner, understand what it’s protecting,
and build the skills to calm your body back into safety.

Something happened that felt overwhelming or unsafe. Vulnerable parts carried the pain, fear, shame, or belief that “it was my fault.” To protect them, protector parts adapted—becoming anxious, perfectionistic, numb, hypervigilant, or avoidant.

These patterns aren’t what’s “wrong” with you—they’re how your system learned to survive.

Healing shifts the question from “What’s wrong with me?” to “What happened, and how did my parts try to protect me?”
