Today in clinic, we celebrated one of our patient’s remarkable achievements! This young man is officially 4 years seizure free 🎉

Even more inspiring, he has overcome Lennox–Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), one of the most challenging epilepsy syndromes. His progress is truly exceptional. Milestones like these remind us of the strength of our patients and the power of consistent, compassionate, multidisciplinary care. We are so proud of him and honored to be part of his journey. 💙

Here’s to continued progress, healing, and celebrating every victory, big and small.

November is Epilepsy Awareness Month!

Epilepsy Awareness Month began in 1969 when the Epilepsy Foundation established November as the month for epilepsy recognition. Since then, many other organizations have joined campaigns to raise epilepsy and seizure awareness. In 2003, the U.S. Congress formally declared November National Epilepsy Awareness Month. Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological conditions, yet it remains widely misunderstood. One in 10 people will have a seizure during their lifetime, and one in 26 will develop epilepsy.

As you know, we love to shine a little light on our patients whenever we can. Today we celebrate this young man. He has been seizure free for two years. We have watched him grow up from a little boy to a young man. While we are happy for him and his family, we will miss seeing him in our office. Congratulations!

Happy Friday Sunrise Family!😀

September is Dystonia Awareness Month. Dystonia causes excessive, uncontrollable muscle spasms. The muscle spasms twist the body and limbs into involuntary movements and awkward postures. Hand cramps can be a dystonia. Causes include genetics, traumatic brain injury, drug reaction, and numerous neurological or metabolic diseases. Dystonia affects adults and children. Although no cure, there are treatment options available. The more you know!!

Happy Juneteenth Sunrise Family!

It is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth comes from "June" and "nineteenth", referring to June 19, 1865, the day when Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War.

Did you know that some people with epilepsy can have seizures triggered by music! This is called musicogenic epilepsy, and it's super rare. For some individuals, specific songs, rhythms, or even emotional responses to music can trigger a seizure. Interestingly, it's often only certain pieces of music — not all sound — that cause this effect. Brains are interesting, right?
