What is a spinal drill? A spine surgeon’s best friend in a Laminectomy 🩺

04/16/2026

When every other option fell short, Tony chose a new path forward. 💪

After undergoing minimally invasive spinal fusion surgery, he didn’t just recover, he reclaimed his life. Spinal fusion is about stabilizing the spine to restore your motion, and minimally invasive spinal fusion allows you to recover quicker, with less downtime and less pain. Today, Tony is back on his feet, moving freely, and doing what he loves most: running.

Stories like his remind us that even when the road gets tough, there’s always hope for a stronger comeback. 🏃🏻

Back pain that travels down your leg is often labeled as “sciatica," but that term doesn’t always tell the full story.

In our latest blog, we break down the differences between sciatica, lumbar stenosis, and more serious underlying conditions, along with key warning signs that may signal the need for a deeper evaluation.

While many spine conditions improve with conservative care, persistent or unusual symptoms may require a more detailed look. Understanding what your symptoms mean is the first step toward getting the right treatment.

In some cases, recovery may be shorter than binge-watching a full season of your favorite show.

Every patient and condition is different, but surgical advances continue to improve recovery timelines. 📺🦴

A spinal tumor diagnosis can feel overwhelming, but treatment options may be more advanced than many patients realize.

In our latest blog, we discuss how minimally invasive spine surgery may allow for the removal of certain spinal tumors with smaller incisions, less disruption to surrounding tissue, and a faster recovery compared to traditional open procedures.

Not every tumor is treated the same, and understanding your options—along with the importance of surgeon experience—can make a meaningful difference in your care and outcomes.

The value of a second opinion.

This patient was initially advised to undergo a multi-level spinal fusion to treat degenerative changes in the cervical spine. However, her symptoms were clearly localized to a single level.

After evaluation by Dr. Luke Macyszyn, it was determined that the affected segment still had healthy motion. Instead of a multi-level fusion, a minimally invasive cervical disc replacement was performed at a single level.

Her symptoms resolved completely.

Sometimes the best treatment isn’t more surgery. It’s the right surgery.

A second opinion can make all the difference. 🦴
