Marion Eye Center would like to welcome Dr. Jennifer Hurst, O.D. to our family of eye care professionals. Dr. Hurst will be seeing patients in our Cape Girardeau, Sikeston, and Charleston Missouri offices.

“Jennifer Hurst O.D. is a Memphis native. She attended the University of Memphis where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering with minors in chemistry and music. In 2025 she graduated with her doctorate of optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN; during her studies she was able to complete a pediatric optometry internship at Duke. Dr. Hurst now serves the southeast Missouri area providing comprehensive eye care, including glasses and contact lens exams, diabetic eye exams, pediatric eye exams, and monitoring glaucoma and macular degeneration. When she’s not at work, Dr. Hurst enjoys spending time with her husband, visiting her family in Memphis, and reading a good book.”

“Dr. Manning brings over 15 years of experience providing friendly, patient-focused eye care. He enjoys helping people see their best while making sure they understand their eye health every step of the way. His clinical interests include managing refractive and glaucoma care, contact lenses, and ocular surface conditions using the latest diagnostic technology. Known for his clear communication and compassionate approach, Dr. Manning values building lasting relationships with patients and their families. He earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.”

Carlos Machicao, CRNA is retiring today from Marion Eye Surgery Center after 38 years of practicing eye anesthesia and 59 years total practicing as a Nurse Anesthetist. Over the years, he has worked at many of the hospitals in Southern Illinois. He graduated from nursing school at Mt. Carmel school of Nursing and subsequently from St. John's School of Anesthesia in Springfield in 1964. He has touched many lives with his tremendous knowledge, steady hands, charming personality, and witty humor. He will forever be remembered as a loving friend and an anesthesia legend. To know him is to love him! Marion Eye Surgery Center wishes him the best of luck in his retirement and with all of his future pickle ball endeavors!
