Cool the flames of inflammation with these 7 foods! ⤵

🔥 Berries: Including blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. These little gems are packed with antioxidants that help combat inflammation and support overall well-being.

🔥 Leafy Greens: Load up on spinach, kale, Swiss chard, and other leafy greens. They are rich in vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals that possess anti-inflammatory properties.

🔥 Fatty Fish: Fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and sardines are brimming with omega-3 fatty acids, known for their anti-inflammatory effects.

🔥 Turmeric: Turmeric is known for its potent anti-inflammatory compound called curcumin. Add a dash to curries, stir-fries, smoothies, or warm turmeric milk before bed.

🔥 Nuts: Snack on walnuts, almonds, and other nuts to harness their anti-inflammatory power. Packed with healthy fats, fiber, and antioxidants, nuts are an excellent choice to lower inflammation.

🔥Sweet potatoes: Their rich beta-carotene content helps combat inflammation. Roast them, make a nourishing soup, or try a baked sweet potato with your favorite toppings.

🔥 Green Tea: The catechins (antioxidants) that green tea contains are known for their anti-inflammatory properties. Sip on a cup of green tea to hydrate and reduce inflammation.

Feeling like your vitamin D levels are stuck in a rut despite those supplements? You're not alone! Vitamin D plays a vital role in our health, from supporting our immune system to keeping our bones strong. But here's the scoop: sometimes, it just doesn't seem to budge despite supplementation. 🤔

One culprit is insufficient sun exposure. Yep, the glorious sun! Our skin naturally produces vitamin D when it meets sunlight. So, consider catching some rays during those peak hours, and maybe wait 15 minutes or so before applying sunscreen. ☀️ For more details on why your vitamin D levels might be sub-optimal, and what you can do to boost them, check out our latest blog post here: https://www.digestivereset.com/5-reasons-why-your-vitamin-d-level-isnt-going-up-with-supplementation-and-what-you-can-do-about-it

A healthy gut is essential for overall well-being, and it can significantly impact your mood and mental health. The gut is often called the second brain, as it contains millions of neurons that communicate with the brain.

Taking vitamin D supplements? Fantastic! But did you know that dosage matters? 🤓

Factors like age, health conditions, and your current vitamin D levels can sway the dosage you need. 📏 And don't forget the form of vitamin D you're taking—it can make or break the absorption game. You want to make sure you're taking Vitamin D3 for optimal absorption.

What is autoimmunity? 🧐

Autoimmunity refers to a condition in which the immune system (designed to protect the body from harmful substances and pathogens) mistakenly attacks its own healthy cells and tissues.

In a healthy immune system, immune cells recognize and differentiate between "self" and "non-self" substances. However, in autoimmune diseases, this self-recognition mechanism breaks down, leading to immune responses against the body's own tissues.

The exact causes of autoimmunity are not fully understood, but it is believed to result from a combination of:

🔸Genetic
🔸Environmental
🔸And hormonal factors.

Here's are some key aspects related to autoimmunity and the susceptibility to multiple autoimmune conditions:

💢 Genetic Factors:
Certain genetic variations and predispositions play a role in the development of autoimmunity. Specific genes, such as those involved in immune regulation, immune cell signaling, and the recognition of self-antigens, can influence the risk of developing autoimmune diseases.

💢 Environmental Triggers:
Various environmental factors can contribute to the development of autoimmune diseases. These triggers include infections (viral, bacterial, or parasitic), exposure to certain chemicals or toxins, dietary factors, and stress.

💢 Immune System Dysregulation:
In individuals with autoimmune diseases, the immune system fails to maintain self-tolerance, which is the ability to distinguish between self and non-self antigens. The dysregulations this can cause contribute to the initiation and perpetuation of autoimmune responses.

💢 Epigenetic Modifications:
Epigenetic changes, which are modifications to gene expression without altering the DNA sequence, can also influence autoimmune susceptibility. These modifications can be influenced by environmental factors and can impact the regulation of genes involved in immune responses.

💢 Shared Pathways and Autoimmune Overlap:
It has been observed that individuals with one autoimmune disease are more susceptible to developing additional autoimmune conditions. This phenomenon is known as autoimmune overlap or co-occurrence.

Stay tuned for my next post where I’ll be discussing the best foods to eat and avoid with autoimmunity!
Did you know that there are now tests that identify environmental toxins in the body to help those with autoimmunity? This is one of many tests I used in my practice. Send me a DM if you’re curious to learn more about it!
