What Healthcare Personnel and OUR Clients should know about COVID-19 Pandemic
WASH AND DISINFECT YOUR HANDS Many people don't wash their hands enough, effectively, or at all. Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (count, or sing the "happy birthday" song to yourself!) and be sure to get all parts of your hand, front, back and between your fingers!
*If soap is not readily available then perform hand hygiene with alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol before and after all patient contact. Where gloves and mask if appropriate when handling bodily substances or potential exposure to bodily substances.
*Use good hygiene measures. Cover your cough and sneezes. Throw out soiled tissues. Do not touch your eyes, nose, mouth or any open orifices of your body.
BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM Our immune system protects us from disease caused by bacteria, viruses and toxins, so it is important that we keep it healthy and operating smoothly! Here are some tips to help keep you health intact:
1. TAKE YOUR VITAMINS Increase your intake of immune-boosting vitamins by incorporating more of these high-antioxidant fruits and veggies into your daily diet...
* Vitamin C: Citrus, Strawberries, Red/Yellow Bell Peppers, Broccoli, and Kiwi
* Vitamin E: Sunflower Seeds, Almonds, Spinach
* Vitamin D: Salmon, Egg Yolks, Mushrooms (and sunlight!)
* Zinc: Pumpkin Seeds, Shellfish, Chickpeas, Lentils
Turmeric, Ginger, Garlic, Oregano Oil are also powerful ingredients to incorporate into your diet to help boost you immune system.
2. LOWER YOUR SUGAR INTAKE Did you know viruses and bacteria thrive off of sugar? Studies have shown that sugar can interfere with the way your body fights disease. Bacteria and yeast feed on sugar, so excess glucose in the body causes these organisms to build up and cause infections.
3. DE-STRESS Perform gentle exercise and range of motion movements such as, yoga, meditation, and deep breathing practices to promote circulation and keep airways open while reducing overall stress.
4. GET ADEQUATE SLEEP Sleep is so important and a lack of sleep can actually deplete the immune system. During sleep, your immune system release proteins called cytokines which help when you have an infection or inflammation or when you're under stress to regulate your body's healing.
CLEAN YOUR ENVIRONMENT Clean and disinfect the environment in which you occupy. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe. Proper cleaning and sanitizing is also recommended with laundry and food items.
STAY HOME IF YOUR ARE SICK If you are not feeling well stay home. Avoid large crowds, close contact with people and others who are sick.
