❗️The #1 question we get asked❗️

Every time someone asks us this question, we’re internally conflicted. As PTs who really care and want to help as many people as we can, we’d love to just give every person answers and exercises.

But it’s actually a disservice to you! Without a full assessment, learning your health & injury history, and finding the root cause of your pain, we could actually end up giving you an exercise that may hurt you.

So if you ask us this question and get the answer of: “I’d love to help, but it’s best you schedule an assessment” know it’s nothing personal. We’re just looking out for you!

❗️Pain with rows ⁉️ Here’s why… ⬇️

Bilateral lifts (like barbell rows) force your whole body into a rigid, braced, compressed position.

To stay bent over and pull with both arms, your spine has no choice but to lock down, your ribs get squeezed tight, and your hips freeze. Your entire posterior chain of muscles co-contracts, causing increased tension and compression.

It’s a strong position— but it’s a compressed, no-movement position.

When you swap out for a unilateral row variation, the whole system opens up.

One side can rotate, your ribs can actually expand, and your spine can move instead of bracing like concrete. You’re still building strength—just without sacrificing the natural rotation your body thrives on.
