🥳RISING STAR ALERT! Congratulations to our Employees of the Year, Janet, Lisa, and Joe!🥳
U.P. Home Health & Hospice and U.P. Private Duty Services recently announced the organization’s Employees of the Year. This annual award is based on peer nominations and specific criteria, which includes a commitment to quality patient care, teamwork, and professional development. Each of the recipients was presented with a monetary award and plaque in recognition of their outstanding service and is recognized on plaques displayed at the agency’s Marquette and Ishpeming offices.
Janet Everson, RN, a 6-year veteran of U.P. Home Health & Hospice was named Direct Care Staff Employee of the Year. “Janet’s patients think very highly of her and often mention her kindness, attention to detail and compassion,” her nomination reads. “She has a calm demeanor, always has something positive to say and is described as a ‘silent hero’ and ‘quiet warrior’ for U.P. Home Health & Hospice.” Janet makes a long-lasting difference for our patients and families and although she prefers to fly under the radar, she is truly appreciated for all that she does.
Lisa Bowers, Administrative Services Clerk, hired in 2024, was named the Non-Direct Care Staff Employee of the Year. “Lisa goes out of her way to make sure everything is organized for the field staff and she is always willing to help with anything in a positive way,” stated her nomination. “She is always friendly and professional, welcoming to all and compassionate to families, and her kind heart is appreciated by all around her.” Lisa is a gem to U.P. Home Health & Hospice, and her friendly and upbeat attitude brightens up the office.
Joseph Stakvel Private Duty Aide, has been selected to be our Private Duty Aide of the Year. He started at U.P. Private Duty Services in 2024. Joe consistently goes above and beyond in every aspect of his work, truly embodying what it means to be Private Duty Aide of the Year. He is always willing to pick up extra shifts and adjust his personal schedule to ensure his clients receive the continuity of care they deserve. No matter the challenge, Joe prioritizes his clients’ needs, demonstrating unwavering dedication, compassion, and professionalism. His commitment to providing exceptional care not only makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those he serves, but also sets a powerful example for the entire team.
“These amazing members of our team received multiple nominations from their peers,” said Jennie Garrett-Bureau, CEO/Administrator of U.P. Home Health & Hospice. “We are honored to have them on our team with their hard work, devotion to our patients, and fulfilling our organization’s high standards of care. Their teamwork and commitment to their profession ensures a high level of excellence in patient care. We are proud that Janet, Lisa, and Joseph are part of our dynamic team of angels.”
Cindy Nyquist, Owner/Founder, agreed. “Since starting U.P. Home Health & Hospice over five decades ago, I am constantly impressed by our remarkable team, in both their clinical and administrative quality work, but also in who they are as human beings. They know our legacy of caring in this community has lasted so long because of what they do for our friends and neighbors. We are lucky to have this team in place.”
