Standardizing Blood Pressure: Small Details, Big Impact
Accurate blood pressure isn’t a suggestion, it’s a clinical standard. If you’re still relying on single readings or casual workflows, it’s time to tighten the system.
Here’s a streamlined approach you can use in any primary care or DPC setting:
- Correct cuff size — small, standard, large, or thigh. Get it right.
- Proper positioning — seated, feet flat, back supported, arm at heart level.
- Repeat x2, average — wait 1–2 minutes between readings.
- Home BP log — essential if readings are borderline or inconsistent.
A standardized BP process creates better data, clearer trends, and more informed decisions, especially in lifestyle-focused or preventive care models.
Because “normal” means nothing if the measurement isn’t accurate.
