Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy, Myo, OMT, OMD, TOT- you've probably heard all these buzzwords kicking around the internet- especially if you've got a little one with speech, feeding, or language challenges. All of the clinicians at MSLT have had OMT training to support our evaluation and treatment skills. We also have Ms. Cassie who has done extensive OMT training to support all cases and troubleshoot complex questions.

OMT is a hot topic right now. Is it the magic wand your favorite influencer thinks it is? ...Probably not. Can we take some principles from OMT to help support your treatment- maybe! Talk to your SLP if you have more questions on how oral motor structure and skills may be impacting your child's goals.

Next up in our thankful series- we're shouting out ! We know OT and Speech often go hand and hand and can help kids achieve their goals even faster (after all, we need to be regulated to access language, and using language can help us get what we need to be regulated!) We're so grateful that Kim and her team brave all the New England seasons to help these kiddos grow!

When picky eaters see a new or non-preferred food, they "slam the breaks" with these phrases, leaving many parents feeling lost as to how to save mealtime. Here are some of our go to phrases to "ease off the brakes" and create a more neutral or positive feeding experience.

"But wait- if I tell them they don't need to eat, they WONT" 1) that's okay! At the beginning of feeding therapy, the goal is just fostering positive food experiences, taking the pressure off of eating helps a child put their guard down and keeps them regulated through a meal. 2) ...believe it or not...sometimes they actually do eat the food 😛
