Another baby girl!! First-time mama and baby had it down! Mama was prepared with a fierce determination! We had just a couple of hours at the hospital when this little princess made her entry. We were fortunate to be able to labor at home which is just the best. Congrats!!

Comfort Overflows has been busy this year! I just earned my recertification with Doulas of North America (DONA) through 2026. My initial certification with them began in 2017. Thanks DONA for all excellent guidance, training and referrals.

Also welcome to this baby boy! I haven't seen a baby boy since last December. But there have been a bunch of girls.

I'm grateful to all the clients who put their trust in me to be their doula. It's been a fun ride and hope it lasts a lot longer. Anna, my trusty partner, has been a big help even though she is on maternity leave. She is a wealth of knowledge and loves talking with our clients about nutrition, exercise and lactation. Can't wait to have her back in the field!

Baby girls everywhere!! So happy for this baby and her family. Mama wanted a non-intervention second birth and she got it. She took the time to prepare for this birth, ignored offers to speed up birth and used a lot of patience to bring this little one into the world! Can we say “1 push!” Yay!

Another baby girl and my sweet granddaughter! Her entry was a little tough but it took a bit to birth her sweet 10 pounds. Her mama did great. Her strength and tenacity was amazing. This little one was born at home in water.

This baby girl had a great journey during her birth. Her mama was able to experience a wonderful second birth with no interventions!! That’s what we like to see. Mama prepared diligently for this birth and was definitely rewarded for her hard work.

Funny story about placentas!!

Recently we have been able to offer a unique service to our clients. Although many of our moms choose encapsulation, we have something even more unique to offer.

We have teamed up with Mid-Missouri Search and Rescue to enable our clients to make a unique donation. Did you know that placentas are one of the best training tools for human remains search dogs? It's true.

Glenda Eichmeyer, friend and dog trainer, found out I was a doula and approached me about getting her some placentas. To my delight, it is easier than I thought. Some clients are thrilled to see their placenta go to work in this way. Basically, sign a form and the placenta is saved, bagged and delivered to the rescue group.

Delivery is the funny part! I haven't quite figured out the best way. Imagine sitting in dark parking lot waiting to meet up with Glenda and you have a placenta sitting in a container next to you. Luckily I have never been questioned! I just chuckle as I imagine the conversation I would have with law enforcement if they stopped to check me out!

Here are some sweet babies born in the last few months. The boys seem to be outnumbering the girls, but we have seen two sweet girls recently. Two of these babies were born at home with no complications. One was born during the December blizzard when I was given a ride to the birth home by an emergency vehicle since roadways were so icy! Mama is seen with new baby girl just minutes after her quiet, peaceful, snowy delivery. Comfort Overflows will be with you no matter where - home, hospital or clinic.

Saying something about Doulas!!
A lot of you are just now being introduced to the concept of a doula. We work hard to keep our certifications current and tend to our client's needs during pregnancy and birth. Anna is pictured as she tends a home birth in December. The client had a wonderful quiet atmosphere, complete with a Christmas tree and fireplace. Don't let that kid you. Anna and her client worked very hard to have a wonderful, natural home birth. Squeezing the hips is one way to alleviate pain during a contraction. In the second photo, you can see Anna with a beautiful, thankful and "job well done" look on her face. She is gazing at her client and the miracle of birth she was blessed to be a part of.

He is a teeny tiny baby boy that wasn’t quite ready to be born but I predict he’s going to make his mark on this world. Mama did absolutely great with a birth plan she never expected. She was truly fierce in bringing this sweet boy into the world. Dad was the perfect caring and supportive coach. Their nursing team at Mercy Washington was awesome and her OB made some great decisions to protect this little one. Happy and proud doula!
