It’s going to be a welcome change to have the structure of a routine back tomorrow. It’s not without its challenges but with the snow gone we are ready to get back to our routine as well. Stay warm and have a great first day back Weakley county!
This is photo was taken 9 years ago during my very first snow day as a principal. I LOVE snow days! Snow days can be so fun and memorable.
However, after such a long unplanned winter break, it’s completely normal for returning to school to feel a bit overwhelming for some students. As we come back together, I want to share a few reminders about what families may notice and how we can support our students as they ease back into routine.
💜 Emotional & Behavioral Transitions Are Normal
It's very common for students to need a few days to re-adjust. You might notice:
• Not wanting to come back to school
• Extra clinginess at drop-off or in car line
• Tears or meltdowns before or after school
• Fatigue or irritability
• Trouble focusing or following routines
• Increased need for reassurance
These behaviors don't mean something is "wrong." They are often a sign that a child is regulating emotions and readjusting to structure again.
💜 How Families Can Help at Home
Small, simple steps can make a big difference:
• Talk positively about returning to school while acknowledging feelings
• Re-establish routines (earlier bedtimes, morning routines, regular meals)
• Give extra grace-children may be more tired or emotional than usual
• Listen more than you fix-sometimes children just need to be heard
• Expect a slow start-it may take several days for things to feel "normal" again
💜 What School Will Be Focusing On
As we return, staff will prioritize:
• Re-teaching routines and expectations
• Giving students time to ease back into academics
• Building emotional safety and connection
• Offering patience, reassurance, and encouragement
💜 Working Together
If you notice ongoing concerns, big changes in behavior, or signs your child is struggling more than expected, please reach out to your child's teacher or the school. We are stronger when we partner together.
Thank you for your flexibility, patience, and care for one another as we move back into our school routine. We are so glad to have our students back.
