This Black History Month, we recognize the strength, resilience, and contributions of Black individuals and communities. We also want to acknowledge an important part of that history: the ongoing conversation around mental health in the Black community.
For generations, mental health concerns have often been minimized, stigmatized, or left unspoken due to cultural expectations, systemic barriers, and historical mistrust of healthcare systems. Phrases like “stay strong” or “handle it on your own” have sometimes replaced space for vulnerability, healing, and support.
At our practice, we believe that mental health care is for everyone. Honoring Black history also means supporting Black healing by breaking stigma, validating lived experiences, and creating safe, culturally responsive spaces for care.
This month and always, we stand with the Black community in advocating for mental wellness, access to care, and the freedom to seek support without shame.
Healing is part of history, too. 🖤
