Recently I had an interaction with someone close to me that resulted in a tantrum like reaction.
It shocked the hell out of me!
I looked back and thought … why didn’t you just take a deep breath? Take a beat!
In that moment there were no deep breaths, no moments before my body and brain just REACTED!
Damage was done.
As I reflected I thought of all the justifications for this inflection point. The other person was unreasonable. They have control issues. I was just doing my best and of course it’s not good enough.
Blah Blah Blah
But as I dug deeper I realized my “inner child” was triggered and there were no parents home.
Before you laugh or maybe roll your eyes… it’s true!
My reaction was born from a moment I remember at the age of 10. Similar feelings and fears and frustrations. Only this time I was going to yell back. This time I would stand my ground.
There was no parent at home to calm me down before I created even more chaos.
Who’s that parent you ask?
The nervous system.
My nervous system was fried from life: mold recovery, teens, a neck injury, lack of joy. Had turned my nervous system into some bottle blond split ends.
Because….
Your nervous system parents your inner child.
And as cliche as it sounds that inner child wants to cry out. Wants to be loved, helped and soothed.
So if your nervous system is neglected … so is the inner child….
And then watch out!!!
So take really good care of your nervous system so you can be a better parent to little you.
And not cause chaos ❤️❤️❤️
