So excited for this new chapter!

More big news!!

Last week we announced the formation of Welcome Health, a combination of the practices of Dr. Lamberts, Dr. Boland, and Evans Direct Primary care. This week we have an equally big announcement.

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Mittal Patel is joining Welcome Health starting in August! Dr. Patel has practiced in Augusta for the past 12 years after completing her family medicine residency at Augusta University. She is coming over from a hospital-owned practice to enjoy the better care she can give through direct primary care.

Here are her own words:

"I'm originally from the state of Gujarat, India where I achieved my degree of M.B.B.S from Government Medical College in Surat. After graduating from medical school, I had the opportunity to move to the United States. I continued progressing in the medical field by completing residency training at the Medical College of Georgia in 2010.

I've been married for 18 strong years to my husband, Jignesh, who is also a Physician. Not only do we share similar interests in medicine but we also share a passion for seeing the world, one trip at a time. Our wanderlust has been passed on to our two children (Kahaan, 9 and Aria, 11) who have become quite the travel companions!

I'm very excited to start this new chapter with Direct Primary Care, A True Relationship with your Doctor without the middle man! This opportunity will allow me to spend more time with you, whenever you need it. Visits should never feel rushed. My attention to your needs is important and therefore I've made it a priority to not only have scheduled office visits but also have continued communication via email, text messages, phone conversations and video calls!"

We are thrilled to have her join our team. She really does fit well with our belief that healthcare should center on the needs of the patient, not the health system, administrators, insurance companies, or even doctors.

From Drs. Boland and Lamberts:

Due to the huge surge in COVID cases, we will be changing all visits to virtual (phone/video) unless urgently needed for in-office care. This policy will stay in place until the surge of cases (which is far higher than any so far) comes back down. We will retain staffing in the office to do necessary procedures (injections, lab testing) as well as helping with visits that necessitate in-office care. This will likely impact our ability to fill prescriptions in the office, so please plan ahead and be patient with our staff.
As tired as we all are of this pandemic, it is in the best interest of all that we do this, and recommend that you take this surge seriously. Limit your gatherings, wear masks, and (obviously) get vaccinated if you have not already done so. The current data shows that the unvaccinated are 20 times more likely to die from COVID than those who are fully vaccinated.
I am sorry for any inconvenience this causes. I am very, very tired of this. Hopefully things get better in 2022.

To spend time with our families this holiday season, our office will be closed on Friday, December 24th through Monday, December 27th, 2021. We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, December 28th. We will also be closed on Monday January 3rd, 2022.

CURRENT Dr. Boland Patients,
We regret to inform you that a member of our staff has tested positive for COVID. They are doing well, but potentially exposed other members of the staff. To protect our patients from exposure, Dr. Lamberts and Dr. Boland will minimize their in-person patient interactions in the office through Friday, 08/20/2021, and possibly longer. We are available for telephone and telemed appointments as appropriate and have a limited ability to make other arrangements as needed.
We will be able to order labs, so that you can take advantage of our low prices, but the lab draws will have to be done at the lab testing facility.
Until we have appropriate staffing, we will not be able to fill in-office prescriptions. We will send those to your commercial pharmacy
As a side-note, many of you have asked if you need a booster dose of the COVID vaccine. The third dose is recommended for people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. These included people who are receiving treatment for solid tumor cancers and cancers of the blood, such as lymphoma or leukemia; patients who have undergone within the last two years a bone marrow transplant or are still taking drugs to suppress their immune system; and patients with advanced or untreated HIV infection.
The rise in COVID cases in our community, the subsequent loss of hospital room availability, and the severity of the Delta variant among the aged and immunosuppressed all indicate that we are not yet at the finish line for this pandemic. We encourage you to get vaccinated, wear a mask in indoor public spaces (yes, we hate them too), and resume the social distancing we practiced last winter. We’re much closer to the end of this than we were last year, but we’re not through fighting yet.
