Ronald Wayne McGugan, 46, of Axton, Virginia, transitioned from this earthly life Tuesday, November 11, 2025. He was born in Thomasville, North Carolina, on August 30, 1979, to Ernest Bowles and the late Debbie Sparks Bowles.

He was man of faith and attended Deliverance Church of Christ in Eden, North Carolina. Ronald loved spending time outdoors and building things. He enjoyed reading and particularly found strength in reading and studying the Bible. He was known for the way he loved his children and grandchildren. They will always remember the time he spent with them and the memories they made together.

Ronald is survived by his daughters, Rebekah Manns (Raekwon), Olivia McGugan; sons, Gavriel McGugan (Jaidyn), Noah McGugan; brothers, Charles McGugan, Joseph McGugan; grandchildren, Lucas McGugan, Alexander McGugan, Journee Manns, and Holdenn McGugan, and Sheri McGugan, the mother of his children Gavriel and Rebekah.

All services will be private. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and support that has been shown during this time.

Elizabeth Ann Wilson Crenshaw, 70, of Martinsville, Virginia, ran into the arms of Jesus Thursday, November 13, 2025. She was born in Bedford County, Virginia, on July 18, 1955, to Betty Jane Franklin Wilson and the late Alvin Linenburg Wilson.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel “Danny” Wilson and her sister-in-law, Sandra Wilson.

Ann was a woman of Christian faith who loved the Lord and was eager to share her wonderful Christian testimony. In her earlier years, she was part of the Methodist denomination and also attended an independent Baptist church; but recently enjoyed attending Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with her husband where they were part of a loving faith community. Ann held a BA in administration from Ferrum College and found meaningful careers in the administration office of a psychiatric hospital, as a paralegal at an attorney’s office, a director of her own daycare center for children, and most recently in behavioral health.

Her family were the recipients of her deep love, and her children were blessed with an amazing mother. Ann had a cheerful outlook and was a source of help to both her family and to others around her. Her home was always full of children. She loved to sing and enjoyed cooking and reading. With a heart full of love, Ann made everyone around her comfortable; her ability to pull off pranks filled the room with laughter. Although her physical presence is no longer here, her legacy of love and faith will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her loving husband of eleven years, Carlton Crenshaw, Jr.; daughter, Ashleigh Dillon (Hunter); sons, Carlton Crenshaw (Megan), Bradley Crenshaw (Tina); brother, Jimmy Wilson; grandchildren, Alayna Dillon, Hannah Dillon, Jacob Crenshaw, Brody Crenshaw; mother, Betty Jane Wilson; sister-in-law, Bonnie Wilson; nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, located at 7174 Mountain Valley Road, Axton, Virginia, with Pastor Robby Benfield and Pastor George Agnew officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Jesus “Junni” Davila Bailey, III, 35, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2025. He was born in Dover, Delaware, on April 9, 1990, to Jesus “Poncho” Davila, Jr. and Melanie Sue Bailey Prunty.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Jesus Davila, Sr.

Jesus enjoyed race cars and was an avid Hot Wheels collector. He had a love for learning and enjoyed studying rocks and archeology. Jesse was a compassionate man who loved helping anyone. This was evidenced by the hours he volunteered at the MHC Warming Center, Salvation Army, and Virginia Harm Reduction Coalition. He attended The Community Fellowship Church where he found a loving faith community.

In addition to his father, Jesus Davila, Jr. (Christine) and mother, Melanie Prunty, Jesus is survived by his brothers, Dijon Ryheen Smith, Preston Lee Strand, Jr.; paternal grandmother Lydia Davila; aunt, Lydia Davila (Ray); uncles, Tony Davila (Dawn), Luis Davila (Debbie); cousins, Robin Andino, Rebecca Andino, and Jordan Davila.

A memorial service will be held Friday, November 21, 2025, at 6:00 PM at Salvation Army located at 603 S. Memorial Boulevard, Martinsville, Virginia, with Pastor Michael Harrison officiating. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and concern that has been shown during this time of grief.

Marie Turner, 100, of Martinsville, Virginia, entered her heavenly home Wednesday, November 5, 2025. She was born in Ashton, West Virginia, October 1, 1925, to the late William Robert Koger and Celia Mae Redd Koger.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles E. Turner, Sr.; daughters, Gwendolyn Reid, Audrey Penn; and sons, Charles Turner, Jr. and Alonzo Ferrail Turner; and sisters, Mattie Lee Koger Gilbert, and Cecelia Louise Koger Dandridge.

Marie was of the Christian faith and a member of Mt. Olive East Christian Church where she found a loving faith community. She worked many years as a machinist at Central Storage, Inc., a division of DuPont. She will always be remembered as a caretaker to many family members and friends. With a heart of gold, she loved cooking and entertaining and would always feed family and friends. She was gifted at sewing and enjoyed creating beautiful quilts. Marie’s life blessed so many people for a century, and she will always be remembered for the legacy of faith and love she left for others.

She is survived by one aunt, Mary Jane Via; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Mt. Olive East Christian Church, located at 3611 Spencer-Preston Rd, Martinsville, Virginia, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Davis officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Family will receive friends and extended family members at 3566 Spencer-Preston Road, Martinsville, Virginia, beginning Monday, November 17, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 PM.

James “Jim” Allen Hylton departed his earthly home on November 8, 2025, while at the Mountain Valley Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, following a valiant fight against cancer. He resided in the Horsepasture community of Henry County.

Jim was born in Stuart, Virginia on June 3, 1963, to Rose Marie Byer Hylton and the late Charles Lee Hylton. He graduated from Carlisle in 1981 as Valedictorian of his class. He attended the University of Virginia and graduated from the Virginia Commonwealth University. He worked for Lexis Law Publishing in Charlottesville, Virginia.

He enjoyed time spent outdoors and was a friend to all animals, no matter how large or small. Jim’s favorite place was along Dunlap Creek on his grandparent’s land in Alleghany County, VA, where he loved to fish and swim. He also was an avid reader, and you would find him absorbing the words from the pages of all kinds of different books in his spare time.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents, Leon and Lena Belle Byer and paternal grandparents, Jim Bill and Mary Wade Hylton.

He is survived by his mother, his son, Jake Hylton and daughter, Helen Hylton (Josh), his sister, Jeannie Craig (Jim), special friend Anita Impagliazzo, and his special cat, Kitty #1.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692, in memory of Jim.

The family would like to thank Jim’s special neighbors that helped support him during his illness. All services will be private.

Charlie C. Bray, 68, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on December 10, 1956, in Danville, Virginia, to Calvin C. Bray and Edna A. Bray.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Edna Bray; his beloved daughter, Samantha Bray Hoffman; his brother, Eddie Bray; and his nephew, Timothy Beam.

Charlie was a man of strong faith, unwavering love, and a generous heart. A devoted believer in Christ, his faith and family guided every step of his life. He attended Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church until his health no longer allowed him to attend.

Charlie was a simple man with a big heart who found joy in life’s quiet pleasures. He loved spending time in his workshop woodworking or enjoying peaceful days hunting with his late best friend, Billy Thomas. “Papa,” as he was lovingly called, enjoyed quiet evenings watching Duck Dynasty, Gold Rush, or Swamp People, sipping a cold Diet Mountain Dew, and savoring his favorite Little Debbie cakes. Those small comforts filled his days with laughter and contentment.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Mary W. Bray; his caring daughter and son-in-law, Angel and Philip Harper; devoted grandchildren, Amber Amato (Rob), Katelyn Jamison, Madison Jamison, and Jaden Harper; and his adored great-granddaughter, Hadley Jade, who was the joy of his heart. The family also wishes to acknowledge Katherine Flippen, a dear friend whose kindness and care blessed Charlie’s life in his later years.

He is also survived by his sister, Linda Bray Beam; daughter, Melissa Hairston; stepdaughters, Paula Williams and Susan Lopp; other grandchildren; nieces, Tammy Gammon and Amanda Adams; and nephews, Darrell Beam and Eric Bray—each of whom held a special place in his heart.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Pastor Gary Shupe officiating. Family visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

Robin Collier Gibson, 64, of Martinsville, Virginia, went home to be with Jesus Friday, November 7, 2025. She was born January 31, 1961, in Martinsville, Virginia to the late Sherman “Doc” Collier and Barbara Louise Hardy Prillaman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathy Martin and brother, David Collier.

Robin had an adventurous life. She loved to go camping, ride motorcycles and was an avid crafter. She enjoyed going to church, loved the Lord and shared her beliefs with her family. Robin was always filled with joy when she got to spend time with her family. She loved her husband, her children, her grandchildren, “Jewels” her dog and “Halo” her cat very much and she would pick spending time with them above all else, whenever she had the chance.

In addition to her husband, Robbie, left to cherish her memory are her sons, Evan Collier, Matthew Gibson; sister, Trish Rhodes; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and numerous extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, November 11, 2025 from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at New Life Chapel, 221 Martinsville Loop, Stoneville, NC 27048.

David Wayne Mabe, 53, of Collinsville, Virginia, transitioned to his heavenly home Thursday, November 6, 2025. He was born October 25, 1972, in Martinsville, Virginia, to Doris Kathleen Hedrick Mabe and the late James Bethel Mabe.

David was a member of Faith Fellowship in Wirtz, Virginia. He earned his Master’s of Divinity degree from Gardner-Webb University in 2001 and was a proud 1990 graduate of Laurel Park High School. David loved Star Wars and anything UNC, and if there was something delicious to eat, he was all in; he enjoyed every bite. He never met a stranger; he had a way of making everyone feel welcomed and seen. He always carried a smile, joked constantly, and had the most amazing sense of humor; the kind that could light up any room. David took care of people, even when he didn’t know them, and that’s just who he was. He was deeply passionate about the Bassett High School Band and never missed a single competition. He was also dedicated to Da Capo and supported them wholeheartedly. David loved his family beyond measure and was always there, steady and dependable. He even loved shopping, especially if it meant time together. He and his wife shared twenty-two years of marriage, and a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and many memories.

In addition to his mother, left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Angela Gail Paitsel-Mabe; his daughter, Patricia Kathleen Mabe; sons, Christian Paitsel Mabe, and Conner Lee Mabe; and numerous extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at 6:00 PM at Faith Fellowship Church, 100 Wirtz Road, Wirtz, Virginia with Pastor Gary Hoffman and Reverend Dr. Michael Hatfield officiating.

Helen Collie King, 77, of Martinsville, Virginia, entered her eternal rest Thursday, November 6, 2025. She was born in Martinsville on April 9, 1948, to the late William Scott Collie and Bessie Anderson Collie.

Helen was a woman of Christian faith who loved the Lord. She found strength in her faith community at Stanleytown Amazing Grace Baptist Church and enjoyed watching Christian television programs. She found fulfillment in her career as a professional pet sitter where she would lovingly care for animals. Helen loved to travel and enjoyed visiting places like the parkway, Florida, Disney World, and the beach. She was a loving wife to her husband, Sam, for 46 years and spent a lifetime making memories with him.

Along with her husband, Helen is survived by her sister, Eunice Paulett, and extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday November 22, 2025, at Stanleytown Amazing Grace Baptist Church at 1:00 PM with Pastor Greg Hodges officiating. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support that has been shown during this time of grief.

Patricia Wynn Shivley, 84, of Collinsville, Virginia, entered her heavenly rest Wednesday, November 5, 2025. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 31, 1941, to the late Harold Wynn and Rose Domine Wynn.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Brian Leonard Shivley.

Patricia was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who loved her family tremendously. She invested in the lives of her children and grandchildren, ensuring that they always came first. Married to Paul for 59 years, she built a foundation of love and happiness and spent her life caring for her family. She enjoyed traveling and in her leisure time she spent time sewing. Patricia enjoyed a fulfilling career as a bookkeeper for a franchise corporation. She and her husband came to Martinsville to start the first two McDonald’s franchises in the area. Although her physical presence is no longer here, her legacy of love and kindness will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Charles Shivley; son, Brandon Charles Shivley (Heather), sisters, Barbara Henwood, Joan Johnson; brother, Harold “Howard” Wynn (Jean); grandchildren, Jackson Shivley, Cooper Shivley, Lideah Shivley; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, and her special friend, Amy Joyce.

A memorial service will be held Monday, November 10, 2025, at 6:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Kyle Thompson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
