Total Health Chiropractic Total Health Chiropractic The ultimate turning point for him was when his family chiropractor saved his mom’s life.

Dr. Skylar Bakko went to chiropractic school at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and graduated cm laude in February 2012. Since earning his Doctor of Chiropractic, he completed hours of study on Brain-Based Wellness, including Quantum Neurology, Applied Kinesiology, Developmental Functional Neurology, Neuro Emotional Technique, and Beyond Functional Medicine. Awarded the Katman Doctor of the Year award in 2022, Dr. Skylar Bakko has dedicated his life to helping those suffering from pain and chronic illness. She had been experiencing fatigue, weight gain, poor sleep, digestive problems, muscle pains, hair loss and many others. His mother was first misdiagnosed with having an infection and their chiropractor detected a potential problem with her thyroid. It was later discovered that his mom had thyroid cancer. Thankfully, it was found early enough, and after a few medical procedures, she was cancer-free. It was at that moment in his life that he chose to become a natural healer. The whole purpose of our clinic is to be a beacon of hope for the community in need. Its purpose is to not only help others maintain their health, but also to give life back to those who are suffering. He is continuously striving to improve the techniques and technology he uses in his clinic and believes in the three main principles of alternative healing: we are born with a divine intelligence, which is the intelligence to self-regulate and self-heal; the body should be maintained and healed using natural methods; and when love and skill are combined expect a masterpiece. Dr. Bakko is thankful to have been blessed with the knowledge and skill to help people. Though the path can be challenging, he thrives in the ever-evolving learning experience that comes with treating rare diseases and chronic pain. For him, the best feeling in the world is knowing he has helped change someone’s life by restoring their own healing potential. Family is also an important part of his life and he cherishes the relationships he has with his parents and sisters. He is happily married to his wife Susy and together they have a gorgeous little girl. Dr. Bakko is an avid sports fan and enjoys playing soccer, bowling, playing the drums, fitness, and trying new cuisines. The Bakko Guarantee

So when your cholesterol is “high” and you’re prescribed meds… the cholesterol (mostly) isn’t the problem… inflammation is the main problem… but it’s typically not checked on your labs… probably bc there’s not a medication to prescribe for it 🤷🏽. So we’re barking up the wrong tree and prescribing harmful meds blaming the wrong thing. If cholesterol meds are some of the most prescribed meds, but heart disease is still the #1 killer of Americans… maybe it’s because they don’t heal or prevent heart disease (bc they don’t). They may lower your cholesterol but that’s not a good thing. Don’t get sucked into the blanket statement that cholesterol is bad for you.

Next time you get labs, ask for markers like: CRP, Homocysteine, ox-LDL, Apo-B, a-LpA, pro-Bnp. These are more important for your heart. And if these are off, I’m still not using cholesterol lowering meds.

Alright I’ll get off my soap box about cholesterol… but before I do, here’s another

A large ecological analysis spanning data from 192 countries has been widely cited for observing that populations with higher average cholesterol levels often show longer life expectancy. Researchers note that cholesterol particularly in older adults plays complex and essential roles in hormone production, cell repair, and overall physiological resilience, rather than functioning as a simple health “villain.” That said, population-level patterns don’t replace individual medical assessment, and elevated LDL cholesterol or triglycerides remain well-established risk markers for cardiovascular disease under current clinical guidelines.

In a large clinical study involving 1,062 participants, researchers evaluated the effects of daily nattokinase supplementation (10,800 FU/day) over a 12-month period on atherosclerosis and blood lipid levels. The study assessed carotid artery health using ultrasound measurements of carotid plaque size (CPS) and carotid intima–media thickness (CCA-IMT), two well-established markers of cardiovascular disease risk. After one year, 66.5% of participants showed a reduction in carotid plaque size, while 77.7% experienced a reduction in arterial wall thickness, indicating slowed or reversed progression of carotid atherosclerosis.

In addition to structural improvements in the arteries, nattokinase produced significant changes in blood lipids. Participants experienced average reductions of 15.9% in total cholesterol, 15.7% in triglycerides, and 18.1% in LDL cholesterol, along with a 15.8% increase in HDL cholesterol. These benefits were observed primarily at the higher dose of 10,800 FU/day, as lower doses (3,600 FU/day) were ineffective. The study reported no serious adverse effects, and outcomes were further enhanced in participants who exercised regularly or co-administered vitamin K2 or low-dose aspirin, highlighting the potential role of nattokinase as a supportive intervention for cardiovascular health.

Doc Grondin has posted on this many times. Just more confirmation.

Researchers reported in a 2013 case series (PMID: 24351023) that three patients with autoimmune hypothyroidism from Hashimoto’s disease experienced complete or near-complete resolution of chronic, debilitating fatigue after receiving high-dose thiamine (600 mg/day orally or equivalent parenteral dosing).

Fatigue was quantified using the Fatigue Severity Scale, and improvements occurred rapidly — within hours in two patients and within a few days in the third.

The authors proposed that the benefit was not due to thyroid hormone changes but to a functional thiamine deficiency at the cellular level, possibly driven by autoimmunity-related impairment of thiamine transport or enzymatic activity in energy-producing pathways.

They suggested that “mass-loading” thiamine may bypass this defect and restore normal mitochondrial function, leading to dramatic reductions in fatigue — but emphasized that this was based on only three uncontrolled cases and requires larger, controlled trials for confirmation.

SEASONAL AFFECTIVE DISORDER (SAD)

As winter settles in and sunlight fades, many people begin to feel the subtle (or not-so-subtle) effects of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Low mood, sluggishness, trouble waking, carb cravings, and emotional heaviness can quickly impact daily life—and this is the time of year when your clients need support the most.

Why IASIS Neurofeedback Is a Game-Changer for SAD Season

****Brings Light Back to the Brain

Even when the days feel dark, IASIS Neurofeedback helps the brain shift out of patterns that keep clients feeling stuck, heavy, or flat. Many report feeling brighter and more like themselves in just a handful of sessions.

****Boosts Energy, Motivation & Mental Clarity

Winter months often bring fatigue and “slow thinking”. IASIS Neurofeedback supports clearer cognition, smoother focus, and more balanced energy, helping people stay engaged in their lives, work, and relationships.

****Reduces Stress & Emotional Overload

SAD can often heighten anxiety, irritability, and emotional overwhelm. IASIS Neurofeedback helps calm the nervous system and promotes steadier emotional regulation.

****Supports Better Sleep & Healthier Winter Routines

Improved sleep leads to better mood, more consistent energy, and easier mornings, all leading to better daily management. IASIS Neurofeedback helps reset the brain’s natural rhythms, so clients feel more restored and grounded.

****Builds Long-Term Resilience
Consistent IASIS Neurofeedback sessions throughout the winter months can help reduce symptom intensity year after year, giving clients confidence and stability during a historically challenging season.
