In 19th-century Netherlands, love crossed a wall — and centuries of division.
Jacobus and Josephina came from different faiths, a union that challenged the norms of their time. When death separated them by a cemetery wall, custom said they couldn’t be buried side by side. But their love endured.
Two graves. Two hands reaching across the stone barrier. A silent promise that even in death, they would not let go. Love always finds a way.

🕊️ Known as “recording angels,” these solemn figures are often depicted holding books or scrolls — symbols of lives remembered and deeds recorded.
The striking Phipps-Loomis Angel at Allegheny Cemetery in Pennsylvania watches over Ibrealla Loomis Phipps, who died in 1888 at just 26 years old. With pen in hand and gaze cast upward, she stands as a silent witness, forever inscribing Ibrealla’s story among the stars. (Source: Father Pitt)
