Today in speech therapy we brought out the vintage felt board and had so much fun with pretend play 🐾✨

While we played pet store, we worked on grammar, pronunciation, and building sentences about what all our little animals were doing. By the end, we created a great story and this adorable scene! 🐶🐱🐰

It’s time for 🌸 spring farmers markets 🌸 in speech therapy!

This week during pretend play, our little shoppers have been busy buying and selling at the market 🥕🍓 While we play, we’re working on so many important language skills like possessives, pronouns, and helping verbs (is/are, have/has, do, and more).
Play-based learning makes it so much more fun—and meaningful—as kids practice real-life communication in a way that feels natural and exciting 💛

Now I want to know… do you love going to the farmers market when the weather gets warm? ☀️ What’s your favorite thing to pick up there?

This week in speech we are all about 🦋 butterflies 🦋

After learning about butterflies, I asked one of my students to share his thoughts… and wow did he deliver when he spelled:

“feel all gooey every free butterfly I see. fly every ornate pattern. each butterfly forges good path. get only good vibe”

I mean… 🥹💛

It sparked such a sweet conversation about why I love butterflies so much and why one is part of our logo. Butterflies remind me of the journey our kids are on. Just like a caterpillar, growth takes time, effort, and a whole lot of hard work. The process isn’t always easy—but it’s so worth it.

In speech, we are all little caterpillars 🐛 working our way toward becoming beautiful butterflies 🦋—growing, changing, and finding our voice along the way.

And just like my student said… we’re here for those good vibes 💫

The weather may be all over the place this week, but that hasn’t stopped us from celebrating spring in speech therapy! 🌸🐰

We’ve been having so much fun finding eggs in Easter grass and going on egg hunts—all while working hard on our articulation and language goals 🥚✨ We also played some springtime bingo, targeting vocabulary, inferencing, articulation, and building those important social skills like turn-taking and interaction!

Spring fun + meaningful learning = the best kind of therapy 💛

🍀 Kids say the best things…especially when they can truly say what they’re thinking! 🍀

One of the reasons I love teaching spelling as an AAC strategy is because my spellers constantly surprise me with their spontaneous and creative language.

This week a 5-year-old student decided to tell me her plan for catching a leprechaun. Here is the story she spelled completely on her own:

“first go in the behinh behind fridge get food he likes find good place to keep him finger gold into IQ pick gold coin in fridge”

I love seeing how spelling gives kids the freedom to share their thoughts, ideas, and imagination in their own words. Sometimes the most magical part of therapy is simply giving kids the tools to say exactly what they want to say. ✨🍀

We are having so much fun in speech on this beautiful spring day! 🌷☀️

We’ve been busy collecting gold to fill our leprechaun pots with target words, going on Easter egg hunts to find items that match our speech goals, and enjoying sweet little picnics with our animal friends. 🐰🥚🌈

Play makes therapy so much more fun, and it’s amazing how much learning happens when kids are engaged, laughing, and using their imaginations. I love watching my students practice their words while having such a great time!

Spelling to communicate for the win again! ✨

Today I was pretend playing with one of my little nonspeaking students and we were making up stories about who would eat the items in our picnic baskets. Traditional pretend play can be tricky for her because motor planning and regulation challenges make it hard to control the toys during play. But let me tell you… her imagination and language did NOT disappoint.

When I asked who should eat the cheese, she thoughtfully spelled: “offer it to a weary traveler.”
Definitely filing that under phrases I would never think to program on an AAC device!

She also told me:
“I go get grapes at the zoo.” 🦒🍇

And when I asked her to tell me about where we pick blueberries, she confidently said:
“I go get blueberries from Kroger.” 🫐

Moments like this are why I love spelling as a way to communicate. When students have access to the alphabet, they can share spontaneous, novel thoughts that truly belong to them—and sometimes they are absolutely delightful.
Communication should never be limited to only the words we think to program.

🌷 Spring speech therapy is in full swing over here! 🌷

Today’s sessions are packed with fun, hands-on activities. We’re using St. Patrick’s Day smash mats and coin covers to practice pronouns and verbs, decorating ladybugs with their spots while working on target words, and bringing out the Easter stamps and eggs for lots of vocabulary, language, and articulation fun! 🐞🍀🥚

Play-based learning makes practicing speech and language skills exciting, engaging, and meaningful for our kids. I love seeing how motivated they are when therapy feels like play!

We are having so much fun in speech this week breaking out all the Easter activities!

🐰🌷 The bunny has been very busy — and VERY hungry! We’ve been feeding him all kinds of goodies while working on vocabulary, requesting, building sentences, practicing articulation target words, and so much more.

At one point, he was apparently so hungry that he decided to eat the picnic baskets too! 😂

I just love weaving pretend play into our sessions. When imagination meets language goals, the learning feels like pure fun — and that’s when the magic really happens. 💛✨

Feel Good Friday 💗

The highlight of my week was the sweetest moment. When I asked one of my students how their Valentine weekend away was, they carefully spelled out: “I eager to give you hug.” 🥹

Moments like this are such a beautiful reminder of the power of communication. Having access to any words truly opens the door for meaningful connection. I have so many students who use the word “eager” on letter boards — and honestly, I had never thought to program that word on an AAC device… but wow, it really packs a punch.
These are the moments that make this work so special. 💕
