Feel Good Friday 💗

The highlight of my week was the sweetest moment. When I asked one of my students how their Valentine weekend away was, they carefully spelled out: “I eager to give you hug.” 🥹

Moments like this are such a beautiful reminder of the power of communication. Having access to any words truly opens the door for meaningful connection. I have so many students who use the word “eager” on letter boards — and honestly, I had never thought to program that word on an AAC device… but wow, it really packs a punch.
These are the moments that make this work so special. 💕

Tea party week in speech therapy is in full swing, and we are having the sweetest time learning and playing! 🫖✨

While we sip and serve, our students are busy building big skills — practicing possessive nouns, creating sentences with pronouns, helping verbs, and verbs, requesting their favorite food items, categorizing tasty treats, and describing foods using our Expanding Expressions Tool.

Play-based learning for the win! When therapy feels like a party, progress happens naturally. 💗

I loved handing out fidget and whistle valentines to all my little valentines this week — whether they’re working on sensory and oral motor skills or practicing speech and language goals. Who doesn’t love a fun fidget or a silly whistle to make therapy extra motivating? 💗✨

Sometimes “not wanting to work” turns into the best lesson of the day 😉

When a kiddo decided they didn’t want to do structured work and accidentally invented a brand-new game, we went with the flow… and ended up playing it the rest of the day. Today’s mission? Delivering Valentine packages to all the houses, helping open them, and talking about the surprises inside 💌🏠

By following the child’s lead and motivation, we still got all our work done—and the kiddo was happy, engaged, and having fun the whole time. Plus the invention of the new game made a new game for other kids to enjoy during their session as well! Total win-win 💕✨

Feel Good Friday ✨

The highlight of this week was supporting a student who used spelling to request learning how to use a LAMP AAC device. Moments like this are a powerful reminder of the importance of honoring every individual’s voice.

In our practice, we support students who communicate in many different ways—through sign language, high-tech AAC systems such as TouchChat and LAMP, low-tech picture supports, spelling, and verbal communication. Many students use multiple methods over time, and we believe there is no single “right” tool.

Communication is about access—meeting each person where they are and providing the supports they need to express themselves.

As motor and cognitive skills develop, new communication options may become available, opening even more opportunities for connection and independence. It is incredibly rewarding to see students build the skills and confidence to advocate for the communication methods they want to explore.

Feel Good Friday 💛

The best part of this week was watching a 5-year-old student begin spelling open-ended thoughts all on her own. She asked how to play a specific game and independently spelled an entire sentence to get her question across!

Afterward, I asked how she felt about being able to spell her thoughts. Her response?
“Quite prideful.” 🥹✨

Moments like these are why we do what we do. Seeing students truly flourish and confidently say what they want to say through spelling is absolutely amazing! 💫

Back to the cold weather after a warm vacation calls for celebrating the only way we know how… with all things winter and snow in therapy! ❄️☃️

This week we’ve been digging through the “snow” to find our target words using snow dough on smash mats, adding marshmallows to our hot cocoa mugs, and decorating cozy winter hats with pom-poms. Anything we can do to stay warm, cozy, and having fun while working hard on our speech and language goals! 🤍
