Hi friends! 🩷 Long post but all the updates! (And more details on our site if you’re interested!)

Speech & Plastics: Speech continues to be one of our biggest hurdles, and after an X-ray study over the summer proved Izzy to have velopharyngeal insufficiency, Izzy has been scheduled for palate surgery on October 14th. Dr Patel is going to build a flap tailored to Izzy and tether together her palate and throat. There are risks and side effects but this surgery is the only way to fully allow Izzy to make her consonant sounds - she has so much to say! Due to the additional childhood apraxia diagnosis, she will continue her speech therapy with Miss Patti after the operation to help with the neurological connection.

Audiology: When Izzy is under anesthesia for her palate surgery, they will complete a full ABR to check her hearing since we’ve had trouble getting conclusive results in the past.

Endocrinology: Dr K has to be the one to sign off on Izzy going under with anesthesia since she’s the one who monitors her levels, so pre-surgery consists of labs & a kidney ultrasound. The ultrasound was this week and showed normal results. Izzy has been back to getting labs every 3 weeks to check her calcium and phosphorus due to lowered levels last year. She’s remained on medication because of this but her numbers are now stable. Parathyroid, thyroid, and vitamin D have all been checked too - and they’re good!

Immunology: Hooray for this - Izzy’s small but mighty T cell army continues to fight! Dr Li said at this time he doesn’t need anymore labs and Izzy can go to his yearly check-in list!

Genetics & Pediatrician: no new concerns in these areas and Izzy is up to 25 pounds!!!

Ophthalmology: no new concerns; dilation at her next appointment.

Help Me Grow: Izzy completed this program in June and started preschool in September. It’s not going well lol but we’re trying.

That’s all on our girl for now 😅 And this weekend I’m heading to Nationwide Children’s for their big 22q conference - always learning more!

Update on THIS COOL CHICK! 😆

Had her annual genetics appointment with no new concerns. 🥳

Blood levels were a little off so keeping to her medication…🙏🏽

Scheduled her surgical consult for next week - Izzy has a very large gap between her palate and her pharynx BUT she is said to be uniquely advanced in her speech in regards to her age and her diagnosis, so they are allowing for her to have the palate surgery (to build a bridge) at a younger than typical age. Izzy was nonverbal in October, so where she’s at today is insane and magical. While she’ll still have her intensive speech therapy after the surgery due to her speech apraxia (neurological disconnect), she will finally be able to say the consonants that she cannot yet physically produce. Let the chatterbox continue - but now everyone will be able to understand her instead of just us 😅

And lastly, TEN days until our 2nd annual 2.2 for 22q! There’s still time to register if you haven’t! 🩵 https://runsignup.com/Race/OH/Massillon/awarenessfor22q

Today marks the final day of the 22q awERAness tour, but as always, raising awareness goes beyond just awareness month. 💙

Day 30: How You Spread Awareness

Since starting our my22qt foundation in 2021, I have made it my passion and mission to do whatever I can to open people’s eyes, ears, and minds to this genetic disorder.

I had the incredible opportunity to present at our children’s hospital’s rare disease day. I got to speak to and educate high school science classes. I have been interviewed on two podcasts (.podcast & ). I have had the honor of writing parent contribution articles for our local Special Needs Living magazine. Izzy and I have taken the stage together to share her story with the County Board of Developmental Disabilities. She has also been a part of various photoshoots & has been on a highway billboard! With the help of my sister and cousin, I held a 22q bracelet fundraiser. I have had my22qt tables set up at 3 community events. I design & sell awareness apparel and merch. I send out monthly 22q newsletters to our subscribers. And last year I hosted our first annual 2.2 for 22q awareness walk, which turned out to be an amazing success, and I’m now in the planning process of the next one!

The most common genetic disorder (2nd to Down syndrome) that no one has ever heard of. I’m doing my part to change that. For my daughter and for all other 22q warriors. 🩵

Her fight is our fight.
Their fight is our fight.

Day 29: What Makes You Unique

What makes Izzy unique is that she has an entire foundation in her honor! We started my22qt shortly after her discharge from Children’s Hospital in 2021 and we can never put into words just how much we appreciate everyone’s continuous love & support for our girl & our cause. 🩵

Day 28: Where I am Now

As Izzy approaches 2.5 years old - while there will always be ups & downs - today, she is thriving. Loving time with Momma, Dada, & brothers; loving everything sports; loving trash trucks; and loving to laugh and make others do the same 🩵

Day 26: Strength

Izzy has so many strengths; a main one is her nonverbal communication skills. She can have an entire conversation just with her signs, emotions, and cues - and this has been the case for quite some time now. While she is in weekly intensive speech therapy to get her talking, we have always said how intelligent she is and how extraordinary her receptive language is. The doctors agree. 🧠
