Today is Valentine’s Day. Maybe it’s a made up holiday, but ya know what, it is so very lovely to have a day designated to celebrate the relationships that you have with the people you love. And love isn’t just romantic. This is not just a holiday for romance. It is for all the kinds of love.
It’s familial (parents, caregivers, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, ‘framily,’ you get the idea). It’s platonic (friendship, besties) (coworkers, neighbors). It’s self-love (maybe this can be the toughest one?). It’s the love for your pets (that’s maybe the easiest one).
And guess what?!
There’s a big benefit to safe, healthy, loving relationships of all kinds: research shows that love can give a boost to your mental health and physical health by reducing stress and increasing happiness. Evidence suggests strong romantic and platonic relationships can positively affect your overall health, significantly improving physical and mental health by reducing stress, lowering blood pressure, and boosting the immune system. These actions release feel-good hormones like oxytocin and dopamine, which fight anxiety and promote longevity.
So, PGP wishes you a Happy Valentine’s day and hope you share the love!

Feelings charts, feelings wheels, feelings vocabulary! Feelings identification is a crucial part of emotional regulation for *all ages*. These are tools that can help us figure out what is up (literally ‘what do I feel?’), communicate it to ourselves and to others.
Notice, acknowledge, accept, and cope.
There are a variety of resources available to use as a reference: feelings faces, charts, wheels, lists, even a thesaurus can be helpful!

Here we are, another Friday with reports of another weekend snowstorm. It’s been a rough week with all of the ice and frigid temperatures. We are all going a bit stir crazy. Here’s a list of some fun ideas to pass the time (ok, ok, fine, not all of them are ‘fun’, but some need to be done).

It’s SO TOUGH to be cooped up inside, pent up energy, lots of personalities all stuck inside together. It can get tricky. It may be cold outside, but tensions run hot. Try to keep your cool (pun intended). Use your coping skills! Seriously! Create space for one another.

One thing that can help redirect pent up energy and wonky feelings is to be helpful to others … so, check on your neighbors … if they need help shoveling or clearing off their cars, offer a helping hand. It is a double gift: one of the neighbor and one for you! Check your local community social media pages where there are postings about people who could use a helping hand.

Stay safe, stay warm!

ENROLLMENT is open for PGP’s newest group, Pathways to Work!

PGP is excited to announce a new group mentoring opportunity at the Papa Ganache bakery for youth looking to enter the workforce!

PGP’s Pathways to Work combines social-emotional learning (SEL) with hands-on pre-employment experiences to help teens feel confident and ready as they take their first steps into the working world.

The group meets at the Papa Ganache Vegan Bakery in Matawan, where teens learn by doing, building real-world workplace skills through volunteering, teamwork, and guided group activities.

Participants develop key skills like self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship-building, and responsible decision-making. Pathways to Work focuses on building confidence, a sense of purpose, and practical strategies teens can carry with them, helping them navigate workplace challenges, work toward their goals, and succeed in a supportive, inclusive environment.

This is a helpful info graphic made by socialworkerstoolbox.com to explain the various social media sites that kids, teens, and young adults use. Check it out to educate yourself and understand the features and risks of the most popular sites.

PGP recommends monitoring, supervision, and taking the time to get to know the sites that your kids use to figure out what they're ready for and what is appropriate for them.

Hello 2026!!
The New Year is a bit like making pancakes: that first pancake is full of potential, but often a bit messy at first. The excitement and resolutions are fresh, but the first attempts at change might not be perfect. Just like the first pancake that gets better with each flip, the new year allows us to learn from early missteps, adjust our goals, and keep improving as we move forward. The key is to embrace the imperfections and know that each day is another chance to get it right.
Happy New Year to you, you wonderful pancake maker!

PGP wishes everyone a joyous holiday season.

This time of year brings up a whole bunch of feelings … warmth, happiness, love, anticipation, excitement, anxiety, sadness, grief, loneliness, disappointment … really wonderful feelings, and sometimes, not so much. The holidays can be difficult. If you or someone you know is struggling, there are resources available to provide support, when it can feel like everyone is ‘out of office’ for the holidays.

**resources for youth up to 21 years old

Gratitude. Having a gratitude practice is one small shift that makes a big difference. Refocusing and noticing the small (and big!) things in your life that you value (remember glimmers?!). And that make tiny parts of your day better. The warmth of the sun. The breath of fresh, crisp air when you step outside in the morning. The softness of your dog’s fur. The joy the first bite of a fresh baked cookie. The list goes on.

This Thanksgiving season, PGP has so much gratitude to share and we want to recognize not just the small things that make life glimmer, but also the bigger things … the huge important things …

Graciousness toward our clients, who welcome us into their homes and their lives to help manage a crisis. That is not easy, it can be overwhelming to open your life to us, and we recognize the magnitude of this. We are honored to work with you. We learn so much from every single youth and family we work with. Thank you. Colleagues that entrust us with the families that they work with. Collaborating with likeminded professionals, creating strong teams, to make sure our youth and family's needs are met. Thank you. Our staff who are endlessly devoted to our clients, our agency’s mission, and being the amazing rock stars that they are. Thank you. We wouldn't be PGP without all of you. We are so grateful for you.

The phrase that Lindsay says to herself many, many times a day.

Self-talk and redirection are helpful when you notice that your attention is wandering and you need to get back to business! A catchy, rhyme makes it easier to remember.

Be safe, smart, & spooky! Most towns have curfews starting 10/30/25 thru 11/1/25 (hello mischief night). Check your town's social media for the most accurate info.

Adults, know where your kids are and tell them to creep back into the house or they might just turn into a pumpkin! Get them bones back home! (or some other punny dad joke – I’m clearly not great at this).

Anyway, make good choices! Get lots of candy, but maybe don’t eat all of it in one sitting. And brush your teeth!

The humble agenda. A calendar, a notebook, a fancy shmancy planner, hey even a piece of paper. Writing out your assignments can be a big help to organization and make the difference between kind of sort of remembering that maybe there is an assignment due at some point and knowing what you need to complete and when. It can be a simple, excellent organizational tool.
