The Illinois Mandated Reporter Training has been fully redesigned to better reflect our DCFS mission: promoting the well-being of children, youth, and families by responding to reports of potential abuse and neglect and, when needed providing family-centered care and connection to resources. This new version goes beyond recognizing and reporting suspected abuse and neglect. It equips learners with tools to understand when a family needs support – not a report.
What’s new in the training?
• Guidance to help distinguish poverty from neglect.
• A focus on supporting families through early connections to services.
• Strategies for recognizing and addressing implicit bias.
• A trauma-informed approach to interacting with children and families.
• Clear, practical information about how and when to make a report.

⚠️ Three Dangerous Apps for Children! ⚠️

Even if you have parental controls on your child's devices, logging into the apps and knowing how your children interact with others online is crucial. Many apps have chat features that allow strangers around the world to talk to your children. This can put them at risk for harmful interactions. Many children cannot easily tell the difference between a safe connection and a dangerous one.

We’ve created a FREE guide with a list of 12 dangerous apps every parent should know about, plus actionable tips to safeguard your child online ➡️ give.timtebowfoundation.org/keepingkidssafe

It's okay to put yourself first. Taking care of your mental health isn't selfish, it's necessary. 💙

If you need someone to talk to, you can always call or text the 988 Lifeline or chat with a caring counselor online at 988lifeline.org. You don't have to go through this alone.

Children need to learn how to live with an attitude of gratitude just as much as adults do. NACoA spotlights important basics about how caring adults can help foster gratitude in the children in their lives. Through a routine practice of gratitude, the brain can be rewired to focus on things with a more positive, stress-reducing perspective, resulting in a more optimistic outlook. For families impacted by substance use disorder, this shift can transform a child overwhelmed by doubt and shame into one of promise and capability. https://nacoa.org/attitude-of-gratitude-2/

WHO WE ARE

Sometimes change happens one hour at a time.

Illinois Family Resource Center is a statewide project funded for the purpose of ensuring family involvement and input in all aspects of adolescent and young adult care within the Illinois substance use disorder (SUD's) treatment system. Through the enhancement and dissemination of evidence-based SUD's treatment and recovery support services, adolescents, young adults and their families are provided support in their recovery journey at the practice and program level.

To support family involvement that is focused, goal-driven and productive at the policy level, Illinois Family Resource Center seeks family member's feedback that may be shared through collaborative work with the Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery, and the substance use disorder and mental health provider community.

In addition, Illinois Family Resource Center offers this website to provide current research and education to youth, young adults, family members and human service providers regarding issues related to substance use disorders and living a healthy lifestyle. We also offer links to SUD's treatment services throughout Illinois.
