First Mid Bancshares, Inc. recently donated $50,000 to “Expanding Hope,” a Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation Capital Campaign to help fund the expansion of the SBL Regional Cancer Center. Construction on the project will begin by the end of March.
“When we learned in 2015 that a new Regional Cancer Center would be built, we knew we wanted to support it. That commitment continues with this project,” said Joe Dively, Chairman of First Mid Bancshares, Inc. “Cancer impacts all our lives in some way. Everyone has someone they care about who has fought the disease, whether family, friends, neighbors, or colleagues. Partnering with Sarah Bush Lincoln to help fund this expansion is important to us.”
When the Regional Cancer Center opened in 2016, there were roughly 56,000 patient visits in the Regional Cancer Center. Last year, there were 104,000 visits and that number continues to rise. The Cancer Center expansion will add 13 chemotherapy infusion bays for a total of 34, additional exam rooms, expanded treatment areas, pharmacy, waiting room, and dedicated space for non-oncology infusion. The $17.2 million expansion will add 15,000 square feet to the 21,500 square foot center. The Regional Cancer Center Medical team includes: Musaberk Goksel, MD; Kuppuswamy Jagarlamudi, MD; Laura Raftery, MD; Abdur Shakir, MD; Tom Dust, PA-C; Ashley Tennill, APRN and Independent Provider Seong Cho, MD.
“This generous gift is a true testament to First Mid’s dedication to the community, particularly to those battling cancer in our Regional Cancer Center,” said Kim Uphoff, Sarah Bush Lincoln President and CEO. “This is a significant gift that will truly touch lives for decades to come. We’re so grateful for First Mid’s ongoing, incredible support.”
