Jeffery Joe Weaver, age 68, of Mattoon passed away on December 24, 2025 at his residence.
A celebration of life will take place from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at the Mattoon Moose Lodge. Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Jeff was born on May 6, 1957 in Mattoon, the son of George Thomas and Hettie May (Childress) Weaver. He married Phyllis Pierce. They were married for 28 years and shared two sons together. He later married Janie Brown on November 11, 2011. She preceded him in death on December 11, 2018.
Survivors include his sons, Dylan (Michelle) Weaver and Jared (Amanda) Weaver; stepsons, Mike (Angela) French and Clay (Michelle) French; grandchildren, Avery Hopper, Ian Weaver, Madelyn Weaver, Nolan Weaver and Everett Weaver; several step-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Weaver, Tom Weaver and Bob Weaver; sister, Beverly Nichols; and friends Phyllis and Kurt Sparks, and Ronnie Smock.
In addition to his wife, Jeff was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Kent Weaver.
Jeff worked as a car salesman at Miller & Son and later at Pilson Auto Center for over 40 years. He proudly served the Mattoon Moose Lodge, where he was Administrator for two years and Treasurer for two years. Jeff will be remembered as a very generous person, always willing to help his family or friends. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Austin Scott Neal, age 33, of Charleston passed away on April 9, 2026 at his residence.
A Memorial Service honoring his life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Broadway Christian Church, 1205 South 9th Street, Mattoon, Illinois 61938 with Pastor Bradon Thompson officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service until 5:00 p.m. Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Austin was born on December 15, 1992 in Mattoon, the son of Laurie Ann Neal and Scott Augustus Geekie.
Survivors include his mother, Laurie (Mark) Flaherty of Mattoon, IL; sister, Electra Geekie and her mother, Pauline Artibey both of Clinton, IN; grandparents, Linda (Jeff) Gannaway of Windsor, IL and Kay Murphy of New Orleans, LA; aunts, Pam (Tony) Williamson of Sullivan, IL and their sons, Brian Williamson of Effingham, IL, Derek (Malarie) Williamson and their son Mason all of Lebanon, IL; aunt, Melissa Greinke and her children, Annika and Gage all of Valparaiso, IN; niece, Nicole Jordan of Mattoon, IL and her sons, Wayde Colclasure, Chadd Colclasure Jr. (Ashley Klein) and children, Eli and Audrey all of Mattoon, IL; and close friends, Geoff ZuHone, Billie Lawrence, Dylan Movies, T.J. Austin was preceded in death by his father; uncle, Ernie Neal Jr.; cousin, Clint Huffman; grandfathers, Ernie Neal Sr. and Ted Murphy; great-grandparents, Jim (Marion) Beals, Bob (Dorothy) Morgan and Berna (Bernard) Herrington; and his beloved dog, Sadie Lou.
Austin will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, big heart, and love of music and friendship. He was kind, creative, and beautifully unique. Austin saw the world in a positive light. He worked at Hydro-Gear, Dirty’s Bar & Grill, and the Uptowner, where he found his second family and built countless lifelong friendships. From a young age, he loved the outdoors and could often be found at trail parks, camping, kayaking, or enjoying float trips. Austin enjoyed Taekwondo and loved dazzling his friends with magic tricks. Austin had a true passion for music. He was a talented musician and played trumpet through junior high and high school, later picking up the drums and sharing his love of singing, music festivals, and dancing. He also liked to draw and write poetry. He was an avid New Orleans Saints fan. He was a member of the band “Ladykat.” Austin especially loved performing live and bringing joy to those around him. He had an infectious smile and was loved by everyone he met.

Donald Dean Flowers Sr., age 86, of Mattoon, passed away on April 17, 2026 at his residence.
A Graveside Service with Military Rites honoring his life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026 at Bethel Cemetery. Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Don was born on April 14, 1940 in Neoga, Illinois the son of David L. and Juanita (Harris) Flowers. He married Sandra Kay Hamilton on August 12, 1958. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2017.
Survivors include his daughter, Tylene (Robert) Alexander; sons, Donald (Beverly) Flowers Jr. of Mattoon, IL and David Flowers of Oakland, IL; seven grandchildren, Marissa (Kevin) Borntreger, Sirena (Zach) Porter, Samantha (Hector) Osuna, Danielle (Larry) Diener, Donny (Guillermo) Flowers, Audra (Dustin) Kennedy and David Flowers Jr. (Morgan Blackmore); 16 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Don was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Don proudly served in the United States Navy for 20 years before retiring. He later worked as a foreman for Blaw Knox and retired after several years of dedicated service. He remained committed to his community as a lifetime member of American Legion Post 88 and as a 32nd-degree Mason at Lodge 260. Don enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Lee Ann was born on May 3, 1956 in Mattoon, the daughter of David Woodrow and Lela Marguerite (Rinehart) Driskell. She married Curtis Tate on May 6, 1972.
Survivors include her loving husband, Curtis Tate of Mattoon, IL; daughters, Amy Tate and Chelsea Tate both of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren, Shelby (Rhett) Farmer of Fort Mill, SC, Adam Sanders of Mattoon, IL, Aiden Tate of Mattoon, IL and Abigail Tate of Mattoon, IL; great-grandchildren, Valerie Farmer and Jayce Farmer both of Fort Mill, SC; and sisters, Debera Farrier and Tami Hopkins. Lee Ann was preceded in death by her parents.
Lee Ann worked as a CNA in the Mattoon area for 36 years before retiring. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. Lee Ann will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Matt Alan Coverstone, age 69, of Mattoon passed away on April 3, 2026 at Carle Foundation Hospital.
Memorial services honoring his life will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026 at the First Baptist Church, 1804 South 9th Street, Mattoon, Illinois 61938 with Pastor Dennis Strawn officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church. The family requests casual, Chicago Cubs, Illini, or Chicago Bears attire. Matt’s ashes will be scattered in the special places that meant the most to him. Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Matt was born on July 23, 1956 in Mattoon, the son of Ralph Coverstone and Linda (Brotherton) Coverstone. He married Tina M. Basham on June 6, 1976.
Survivors include his loving wife, Tina Coverstone of Mattoon, IL; children, Cindy (Chris) Hanlon, Kylie (Josh) Farmer, Myles (Sara) Coverstone all of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren, Ethan Upton of Peoria, IL, Brogan Hanlon of Mapleton, IL, Pierce (Delainey) and Paige Farmer of Mattoon, IL, Emma, Nathan, and Lily Coverstone of Mattoon, IL; mother, Linda Coverstone of Neoga, IL; and sister, Cathy (Rodney) Morris of Lerna, IL. Matt was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Coverstone.
Matt was former part-owner of Icenogles Grocery in Mattoon. He later worked and retired from Detection Security after 26 years of dedicated service as a technician. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Mattoon.
Matt was our Jack of all trades and master of many. He loved woodworking, puzzles, models, and gardening. He would start his seeds early and give the extra plants away to friends and family. Matt also loved to share the bounty with anyone who would take it. He was always the first to help in any situation. Somehow, he knew how to do everything. Matt especially loved riding his bike (almost daily) with his wife and son on the trail between Mattoon & Charleston. He was always so excited to ride each and every day. He was a diehard Chicago Cubs fan, Fighting Illini and Chicago Bears fan. He absolutely loved his grandchildren and was their greatest supporter in whatever sport they participated in. Matt also loved being outdoors camping, fishing, hiking, and kayaking with his family. Family time was his favorite! Traveling was also one of his favorite things to do, he loved going on cruises, snorkeling and going to the beach. Matt was always talking about his past adventures and planning his next trip. Matt lived his life to the fullest, always willing to support and help his family and friends with a smile on his face. He knew no stranger and showed what a Godly man should be. Matt loved Jesus and was passionate about his church. He was passionate about anything and everything, but most of all he was passionate about his wife. Tina was his best friend, soul mate, and travel buddy. They traveled the world together and made the best memories that will last a lifetime. No amount of words will be enough to describe how good of a man he was. Matt gets to spend forever now with sweet Jesus. We know he is having the best time up there. He gets to do everything he loves and more.

Marilyn Yvonne Ward, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 3, 2026. Marilyn was born on September 21, 1937 on a farm south of Bridgeport, Illinois to Perry and Letha Polk.
Funeral services honoring her life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Schilling Funeral Home with Pastor Travis Spencer officiating. Burial will follow at Aten Cemetery in Hidalgo, Illinois. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Dale of 65 years. Together they raised a wonderful daughter Regenia Lyn, husband David Plake, III. Regenia and David have four children and one granddaughter who were the highlight of Marilyn's life; David Carl (D.C.) Plake, IV (Hannah) and daughter Norah; Macenzie Lyn Plake; Carissa (Trevor) Shue, John Lloyd (J.L.) Plake.
Marilyn is also survived by her brothers, Donnie (Carolyn) Polk and Reverend Jerry Polk; sister-in-law, Nancy Ward; brother-in-law, Alan Tolliver; brother-in-law, Harold Einhorn; sister-in-law, Marsha (Rod) Cochran; and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Leroy Polk and Dickie Polk.
Marilyn was a member of The Fields Church for 48 years, where following her retirement from Blaw Knox she volunteered in the church office. Marilyn enjoyed baking, cooking, caring for her husband and spending time with family. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. In addition, she liked reading, listening to Christian music and ministry shows. Marilyn was faithful to send greeting cards for all occasions to family and friends. She enjoyed watching TV with her husband after the evening meal and really enjoyed looking at the many pictures on her iPad and Aura frame of her 2-year-old great-granddaughter. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Monica was born on September 16, 1955 in Mattoon, Illinois the daughter of Robert Eugene and Betty Joann (Welch) Kelly. She married James Alfred Taylor. He passed away in 1993.
Survivors include daughters, Jamie Nicole Grena and Amanda Jo (Richard) Sexton all of Mattoon, IL; grandsons, Michael “Riley” Lawson of Mahomet, IL and Matthew William Grena of Chicago, IL; and brother, Todd Robert (Angie) Kelly.
Monica was preceded in death by her parents; and life partner of many years, Richard Knollenberg.
Monica will be remembered for her kind heart and caring spirit. After many years at Consolidated Communications, she spent 30 years at The Learning Zone Childcare Center, where she loved caring for the many children she met over the years. Monica enjoyed going to concerts and spending time with her grandchildren, who meant so much to her. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Amanda was born on July 2, 1973 in Mattoon, the daughter of Harold Eugene and Brenda Faye (Lawyer) Burwell. She married James “Jim” Roy Prater on December 31, 1994.
Survivors include her husband, Jim Prater of Mattoon, IL; children, TJ (Jamie) Prater of Chrisman, IL, Allison (Ian) Fauke of Oceanside, CA, Asher Prater of Mattoon, IL and Arabella Prater of Mattoon, IL; grandson, Matthew Prater of Chrisman, IL; and sister, Rebecca C**n (Roger Barrett) of Mattoon, IL.
Amanda was preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Ella Lawyer; and father-in-law, Roy Prater.
Amanda served as Vice President of the Area Educational Credit Union in Mattoon. Outside of work, Amanda enjoyed camping, watching crime documentaries, and spending time with her beloved pets. She had a kind heart and was always ready to help others, making her a loyal friend and a bright light to those who knew her. Amanda especially loved a good Diet Cherry Coke and the simple joys of life. Above all, her children and family were the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Greg was born on July 24, 1957 in Mattoon, the son of John Will Calhoun and Laura Alma (Walden) Calhoun. He married Marla Mode on November 26, 1977.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Marla Calhoun; son, Zachary (Cassie) Calhoun; daughter, Megan (David) Pearcy; grandchildren, Cyrus, Jonah and Logan Calhoun; Eliza and Lucas Pearcy; step grandchildren, DJ and Tapanga Pearcy; brother, Steven (Juanita “Nita”) Calhoun; stepsister, Sherri (Jimmy) Tetmeyer; nephews, Phil (Shirley) Calhoun and Rob Calhoun; nieces, Sherri (Gordon) Foote, Amy Calhoun and Sara (Steve) Gordon; mother-in-law, Betty Mode; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Beth Mode; numerous great nephews, great nieces, cousins, aunts-in-law and uncles-in-law; special friends, Randy Seaman and Stacie; Bo, Cathy and Zoe Barton.

Greg attended Mattoon High School through the 10th grade, and later graduated from Waupaca High School in Wisconsin. Greg retired from the United States Postal Service after 35 years of dedicated service, including 22 years assisting customers at the front window where he became a familiar and friendly face to many in the community. A former member of the American Taekwon-Do Association, Greg valued discipline and perseverance. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking and light carpentry, often creating and fixing things with care and skill. Greg loved sports. He played Sandlot with his brother, cousin and friends. He enjoyed watching the Fighting Illini football and basketball, and was a Chicago Cubs fan and was thrilled to see them win a World Series. But his sports passion was football, NFL football in particular. He was a Los Angeles Rams fan from around age 10 on. He loved talking football. Above all, Greg loved spending time with his grandchildren, family, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ravi Vij and team at The Siteman Cancer Center and all the doctors and nurses at Barnes Jewish Parkview Tower in St. Louis. A very special thank you to Dr. Laura Raftery and all the nurses and staff at SBL Regional Cancer Center for the excellent compassionate care Greg received there. It was husky!

Glenn was born on December 22, 1947 in Mattoon, Illinois the son of Ottis Glenn and Bernadine (Zike) Brunson. He married Bonnie Sue Livingston on April 14, 1968.
Survivors include his loving wife, Bonnie Brunson of Allenville, IL; children, Rachele Renee (John) Lane of Sullivan, IL, Amy Renee (Heather) Everett of Waverly, TN and Shawn Allen (Krissy) Brunson of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren, Justin Glenn (Daci) Root of Marion, IL, Geonna Christina Brunson of Mattoon, IL; Haiden Wickline of Charleston, IL and Ty Wickline of Effingham, IL. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Michael Lee Brunson.
Glenn lived a life defined by hard work, service, and deep devotion to both his country and his family. He dedicated 33 years to Caterpillar and continued serving his community working at TLC in Humboldt. A proud Vietnam veteran and passionate patriot, Glenn remained actively involved in organizations close to his heart, including the VFW and the Patriot Guard. He retired as a board member for the Sullivan Beacon and served on the board and was a member of the local Liberty Abate. He enjoyed camping with his wife, riding his Harley-Davidson, and spending time hunting, fishing, and making memories with those he loved. Above all, Glenn’s faith in the Lord and his unwavering love for his family were the cornerstones of a life. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Keith was born on January 2, 1967 in Effingham, Illinois the son of Kenneth Russell and Marvena L. (Higgs) Bowman. He married Mary Kearney on August 19, 1989.

Michael was born on May 3, 1990 in Nashville Illinois, the son of Sheila and Stephen Stalnaker.
Survivors include his mother Sheila of Mattoon Illinois, and father Stephen (Carla) Stalnaker of Carlyle Illinois. His son Jordan who was born November 22, 2013. He is also survived by his sister Amanda of Mattoon, Sasha of Neoga, brother Matthew of Mattoon, and several nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother and great-grandparents.

Michael will be remembered for his big heart, infectious smile, and willingness to help anyone in a time of need.
