Three generations in the family have carried the legacy at this funeral home with a dedication to excellence in service. Families can expect the highest levels of integrity in every detail of funeral planning. Available funeral services include a range of choices: burials, cremation with memorial services, life celebrations, memorial ceremonies, urns, veteran services, mausoleums, direct cremations, vaults, grief resources, cremation services, pre-planning funeral services, caskets, memorials, honoring life, military honors, and more. The beautiful Queen Anne inspired funeral home was built in 1899. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home Ltd. has renovated and improved the building over the years, creating a comfortable, comforting environment for families to enjoy. The biggest renovation occurred in 1953 when the funeral was expanded to include a chapel that seats 250 people as well as a casket room. In 1984, the funeral home was acknowledged by the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce when the company received the Beautification Grand Award of Excellence. Later, the building extensive interior and exterior remodeling projects were done to continue these improvement efforts. Rest assured knowing that the team at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home Ltd. includes licensed funeral directors as well as memberships to industry organizations: Illinois Funeral Directors Association (IFDA), National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA), Cremation Association of North America (CANA), International Cemetery, and Cremation and Funeral Association (ICCFA). In 2016, the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home was re-recognized by the Coles County Historic Preservation Advisory Council as a notable landmark.
