When nurse Sunny Saengdara headed to the pickleball courts with her boyfriend Rory Bakke in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, she never expected to use her professional skills in such a personal emergency.

Yet her nursing training, quick thinking, and access to a newly installed automated external defibrillator (AED) made the difference between life and death when Bakke suddenly collapsed from cardiac arrest during their game.

"Rory would not be alive if it wasn't for that (AED)," Saengdara told local media after the incident.

HERO | Officer Mondesir was parked and working on a report when someone came up to him and told him a toddler wasn’t breathing. Bodycam footage shows Mondesir picking up the 18-month-old and giving him CPR for seven minutes. An unidentified off-duty nurse also acted "quickly and bravely," stepping in to save the child. Between compressions and breaths is a great time to swap the compressor role. The less time spent making that transition, the greater Chest Compression Fraction is achieved. ❤️A higher CCF indicates more continuous chest compressions, which is crucial for maximizing blood flow and improving the chances of survival for someone experiencing cardiac arrest 💪
