Canyon Rim residents and staff gathered outside on Veterans Day for a ceremonial flag raising. Everyone joined in to recite the Pledge of Allegiance as the flag was being raised. We also recognized Brian and Ray, Canyon Rim’s Veterans, for their service and sacrifice.

Our seed saving efforts continue. Residents have been hard at work collecting and storing seeds from the Canyon Rim gardens. These seeds will be shared with other Vanda Health communities as part of an organization-wide seed exchange and will also be shared in the local Maupin area.

PSA: There have been recent reoorts of some strange sightings around town. There seems to be a half man/half deer creature in the Maupin area. This hybrid creature looks to be related to the legendary and mythical Deer Man that has been sighted across the eastern and southern United States for hundreds of years. These recent Maupin sightings are the first recorded west of the Rockies.

Deer Man is known to have the head and body of a man, and the antlers and legs of a deer. Deer Man is strong and fast and able to stand on his hind legs. He is a reclusive animal and is usually seen just before dark in heavily forested areas.

What makes the Maupin sightings unusual, beyond the creature never before being spotted in the western US, is that this Deer Man does not appear to be afraid of humans. Additionally, he currently has only one antler and wears a hat (perhaps to hide the regrowth of his second antler). Reports also claim that the Maupin Deer Man frequently wears a hoodie and jeans to better blend in with humans of the Pacific Northwest.

If you see the Maupin Deer Man, please do not be alarmed. From all accounts, he is friendly and has a good sense of humor.

We loaded up the bus and headed to The Dalles for a Chinese food lunch. Yum!
