Outstanding representation from our team at the Society of Toxicology Annual Meeting in San Diego. 

Simon Kaja presented innovative work advancing our understanding of corneal toxicity associated with netarsudil, with a focus on epithelial barrier function and permeability.

Emily Krupa delivered an impressive presentation on particulate matter (PM₄ and PM₁₀)–driven neutrophil pathology at the ocular surface, highlighting the potential of ocular surface immune globulins to modulate inflammatory responses.

👏 Congratulations to Emily on receiving the Ocular Subspecialty Section Early Career Award - a well-deserved recognition of impactful, high-quality work.

Loyola at the Joint ISEPS COS Meeting 2026!!! We are so proud of our Program Director Dr. Roshni Vasaiwala who Co-Chaired an amazing meeting this past Friday 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!!! Loyola faculty Dr. Meenakshi Chaku, Dr. Charles Bouchard and Dr. Jigna Joshi all gave excellent talks! Loyola and Hines faculty Dr. Aaron Dotson and Dr. Shweta Chaudhary were panelists with Cataract Coach himself! Both Dr. James McDonnell and Dr. Shweta Chaudhary spoke at the tech program! And a very proud moment for Loyola with all three ISPB awards were given to Loyola : Ethan Teich, Rachel Mazurek, and PGY 3 Dr. Lauren Nakhleh 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻!!!

Dr. Charles Bouchard heads up our 6th Gift of Sight (GoS) trip since 2024 with Humanity First. This time we will have 8 volunteers from the “Chica-GO” Program: 4 faculty and 4 residents from Loyola, Rush, Cook County and Northwestern including Loyola Prgram Director, Dr. Roshni Vasaiwala and Hines faculty, Dr. Shweta Chaudhary. We will also have several additional volunteers including Ayaan Vasaiwala a High School senior interested in Global ophthalmology. Everyone is excited about this trip, which includes about 100 scheduled surgeries and an Academic Evening with local faculty, residents and fellows from Visualiza a multispecialty ophthalmology organization that started a residency program in 2024. We are ready to go!!!

Dr. Bouchard presented a talk on Integrating Artificial Intelligence for Equitable Eye Care at the 30th Anniversary of Humanity First in London. Humanity First Healthcare and Loyola have now established a foundation for long term growth of Vision Care Services in Guatemala for those in need. He was honored for years of service and dedication, continuing his role as a 🌎 health leader in 👁️ care 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻!!! He continues to plan for the future trips to Guatemala in 2026 🤩
