We had a great time this week at Kiamichi Tech - McAlester for their Career Quest event! We enjoyed visiting with students about healthcare careers, job shadowing opportunities, and the many paths available in healthcare education.

CARL ALBERT STATE COLLEGE AWARDED $2.6 MILLION STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES GRANT: The U.S. Department of Education has awarded Carl Albert State College (CASC) a Student Support Services (SSS) grant totaling $2,620,150 over the next five years. The grant provides $524,030 annually to strengthen support for 285 low-income, first-generation, and disabled college students each year, both in person and online, through offices on the Poteau and Sallisaw campuses.

We had a blast helping with the Summer Spark program at the Wellness Center this week!

🧼 Monday: We talked about germs and the importance of handwashing. The kids even grew real germs on petri dishes and watched them change throughout the week!
🦷 Tuesday: Granny Terri brought a microscope and health models to help teach about dental health, diabetes, and hypertension.
🩹 Wednesday: Wound care day! The kids practiced using tourniquets, explored what’s inside a first aid kit, and learned how to cover and care for injuries.
💨 Thursday: We covered what to do if someone is choking, how to use the Heimlich maneuver, and how to safely use an EpiPen and AED.
❤️ Friday: The kids practiced chest compressions on adults and infants, learned how to give rescue breaths, and talked about when and how to call 911.

We’re so proud of these future health heroes! Thank you, Mcalester Regional Wellness Center, for this amazing program!
