A poem I wrote called SHE is YOU. I feel it embodies the intention behind my workbok.
The world told the little girl that she was bad, she was unworthy, she was too dumb or too smart. The world told her she was too chubby or too thin. The world told her that her skin was too dark or too light, that she had too many freckles, and her hair was too course or too fine. As time went on, with every cruel word, the little girl got further and further from her light. She began to believe that she was too much and not enough, she believed she did not deserve good things and felt unworthy of love. The girl began looking in the mirror and seeing all the things that others hate. Her hair that she once loved, she now feels contempt for, her freckles are too many, her thighs too thick and breasts too small. With every harsh word, shadows appeared blocking her light until she could no longer see it. Who is she now but flaws and anxiety?
SHE is LIGHT.
SHE is WORTHY.
SHE is ENOUGH.
SHE is UNBROKEN.
SHE is HEALING.
SHE is YOU.
