In moments of heightened emotion, a pause can help reduce intensity and support regulation. When the nervous system is overwhelmed, learning and communication are less accessible. Allowing time for calm can create better conditions for understanding and skill development.

Functional communication is how children express their needs in everyday situations — with words, gestures, signs, or AAC.
In ABA, we teach communication in the way that best fits each child. This may include spoken words, sign language, or picture-based/AAC systems.
When children have a reliable way to communicate, frustration decreases and independence increases. 💙
