DPH has opened its Triage Line for residents to call to determine their eligibility for Medical Equipment Power Shelters (MEPS) during an emergency in light of the winter storm expected to impact the state this weekend and cause extended power outages into the following week. The number is 1-833-351-9990 and will be open for calls 24 hours a day beginning at noon today, Jan. 23, until further notice.

A Medical Equipment Power Shelter is an emergency shelter with limited support for people who require backup power for medical reasons. These are individuals who live at home and have a health condition that requires backup power for medical devices, refrigeration of medication, or specialized/hospital beds.

As a winter storm approaches, we want to share a few reminders to help our clients and caregivers stay safe, comfortable, and prepared ❄️

🏠 Home & Heat
* Keep interior doors open to allow warm air to circulate
* Let faucets drip slightly to prevent frozen pipes
* Ensure vents and heaters are not blocked by furniture or rugs

🚶‍♀️Accessibility & Safety
* Clear any entryways early so caregivers can enter safely
* Keep a flashlight near beds and main walkways
* Limit stair use by keeping daily essentials on one level

💊 Health & Medications
* Refill medications ahead of the storm when possible
* Be mindful that cold weather can increase stiffness and fall risk

📲 Communication & Continuity
* Write down emergency contacts and care schedules
* Keep phones and medical alert devices fully charged

🚘To all caregivers:
Please use your judgement, before getting on the roads. Drive carefuly and stay safe

Our caregivers remain committed to providing reliable, compassionate care no matter the weather!!

Stay safe and warm 🩷💛
