Sometimes you've just got to get out your box and do something new and different. Take a look at the pictures and you will see Native Americans at the Pow Wow in Natchez, MS. For years, I've heard about how much fun it was but I didn’t hear about it until it was over. This year was different. Armed with Google maps, dates, times, and location, my husband I set out on a cloudy Saturday taking our chances with the weather. We found it. I felt excited when I saw hundreds of people there. I had my sights on buying dream catchers and beaded jewelry from the vendor stalls. And, yes, to see the ritual dancing. But, as soon as we opened the car door, it started raining, not sprinkling, raining! Nothing to do but find other fun until the rain stopped. Eventually, the Pow Wow was moved indoors at a school. Not quite the drama of nighttime in the Indian Village, but sufficient for my newcomer eyes. The huge Gourd drum and the men beating and singing in unison transported me to imaginary histories. Tribal people, adorned tin traditional clothes worthy of a museum display, danced and chanted mesmerizing dances. It was magical.
