The McGregor Public Library welcomed a new shelter pavilion and outdoor furniture last week, made possible by a generous grant from the Upper Mississippi Gaming Corporation.

This project came together thanks to matching funds from Leo Keenan memorials from family and friends, a donation from Craig and LeAnn Watson, proceeds from the annual McGregor Library Book Sale, a contribution from the McGregor Public Library Foundation, volunteer hours from Thomas Sinclair, and a donation from Pat’s Electric.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this outdoor space to life. Once warmer weather arrives, the pavilion will host programs, gatherings, and everyday use.

In the meantime, come use the furniture inside the library, and view the beautiful shelter outside ❤ (some additional photos in the comments)

The Shepherd of the Hills Holiday Shop will be stocked with NEW gifts of toys, games, books, puzzles, quilts, pajamas, etc. The response of donors and the children who receive these gifts is overwhelming. The families are overwhelmed with a sense of joy and delight in choosing items their children are in need of or want.

Monetary donations to support this event can be mailed to Shepherd of the Hills, PO Box 36, St. Olaf IA 52072, with Christmas in the memo line. All money donated is used to purchase items not donated. NEW donations of gifts can also be brought to the St Olaf Auditorium on Dec. 12-13 between the hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or any other day by appointment.

Any questions or comments can be directed to shephill@neitel.net or by calling the office at 563-783-2409.

Just one of the many benefits of reading: the human connection mentioned by James Baldwin here.

Self-awareness: Books can help us understand ourselves better.

Imagination & creativity: Reading offers exploration of cultures, ideas, and emotions that you might never experience otherwise. And can spark your own imagination!

Mental escape & rest: Sometimes reading is a way to slow down, recharge, and step out of everyday stress.

Growth & learning: Reading teaches us new things: history, philosophy, science, how people think. Lifelong learning!
