Have you read the new CDC updated milestones checklist yet? Well, it’s questionable and needs revision! The American Speech and Hearing Association is taking action! If you have questions regarding your child’s speech language or feeding skills contact Taylor’ed SLP today! Change is right around the corner.

Dear ASHA Members:

ASHA is in the process of analyzing the recent revisions to the developmental milestones used in the CDC’s Learn the Signs. Act Early. initiative. This process includes a comprehensive comparison of the previous vs. new guidelines, as well as a comparison to ASHA-specified milestones. ASHA is also conducting an extensive review of published scientific literature.

ASHA has reached out to CDC, expressing its concern about inconsistencies and urging the agency to utilize the expertise of SLPs when making changes to developmental milestones in speech, language, feeding, and social communication. In general, ASHA is supportive of efforts to help identify children earlier, but the milestones presented to parents must be evidence-based in order for families to make well-informed decisions about their children's care.

ASHA will provide members with an update once its review process is completed and correlating action steps are determined.

Do you worry about your child’s safety? Then this activity will benefit you! Take your daily swinging time to teach your child how to answer basic safety questions! Make it your personal circle time! As your swinging ask each question multiple times in a row and model the response! Add in a PAUSE to provide your child an opportunity to answer. BIG PRAISE and move on to the next question! Doing this daily will boost your child’s safety in the community! Here is a list of questions.
1. What is your name 2. Where do you live (start w/ City and State) 3. What is your mom’s/ dad’s name 4. What is your phone number (sing it to a familiar tune) 5. What number do you call if there’s an emergency 6. How old are you 7. What is your allergy 8. What do you say if you need help (Yell- Help!) 9. What do you do if you get lost (Stay right there-don’t move) 10. What do you do if a stranger touches you (run to mommy). These questions are the foundation for future cognitively challenging scenarios and detailed answers. At this point, the goal is for the child to be able to answer these questions with a single word or phrase across multiple conversational partners. If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s speech language or feeding skills call Taylor’ed SLP. Change is just around the corner!!

Taylor’ed to Your Needs

Taylor’ed speech-language therapy services make the difference

My approach to speech therapy is unique because it is a skilled intervention with an emphasis on parent education and empowerment.

As soon as the child achieves success, I will hand off the activity to the parent and assist the parent in achieving that same outcome with the child.

The goal is not for the child just to develop this skill in the therapy room alone, but to be able to transfer that skill successfully at home and in the community.
